When I had my summer tires I drove when it was as cold as the upper 30's, but no lower than that.

Thanks to all for your input.
Ok, so I am leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. When, and if, the car ever gets built and delivered I will have the dealer install them on the new rims instead of removing the tires off of the rims it comes with and installing on the new rims. This way I'll have a set of wheels and tires to sell that will cover the cost of the new tires.

Just ordered these today. Due for install Wednesday. Going on a 460+ mile road trip to Atlanta this weekend. Will update on the performance.

Yup, these won't be as good as their non-ZP counterparts.

Pilot sport A/S 4 is the correct answer. That said, I had the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on my Mustang GT PP1, and they were really good, even had good enough grip for twisty road driving in warm weather, and I was able to do 0-60 runs of 3.7-3.9 sec in them in mild weather (70 ish deg F) with my A10 GT. If I go all seasons in my ZL1, I'll probably go to the A/S 4 Michelin tire.

The OP lives on Long Island New York. A glance at the weather there this week shows 1 day where the temp reaches 40 or above, 2 nights where the low is 22. This is not even the heart of winter. Even though the Pilot Sport 4S might be better than the OEM tire, if he plans to drive this time of year traction will still not be good and he risks being a danger to himself and others. He can also damage the tires.
If he doesn't want to drive when it's cold and he has a warm garage to store his car, then by all means a summer tire is fine. |

My ZL1 with the OEM Goodyear SC3 seems to do a little better, but still not good, in 40 deg F temps. compared to the PS4S on my GT. For example, on my GT, in 40 deg F temp. with dry streets, the car would slide/understeer on a slow and tight U turn at low g forces with light throttle when the tires were cold. Utterly terrible grip when cold, and only a few thousand miles on them at the time. Evasive maneuvers would have been impossible when those tires were cold. They were noticeably better once they were driven on for 10-15 minutes at those cold temps. That type of cold tire behavior hasn't happened in the ZL1 despite having driven it in temps. below 40 F in the same exact same spot many times. I for a fact have seen almost 0.5 gs (and wasn't at the limit) on cold 35 deg F tires in my ZL1, while doing a slalom type exercise to test the cold weather grip in an empty parking lot after the car sat out in the cold for a couple of hours. They weren't breaking lose and had more available grip so I'm not sure where the actual grip limit was. The equally cold PS4S was nowhere near that in my GT.

I'm surprised to read people here think the OEM GY F1's are noisy. I don't find mine noisy at all. At least not compared to my wife's car!
She has a '16 CTS4 that has the 18" wheel option which come with RFs. OEM tires were Pirelli PZero Nero's which we found to be good in year-round Michigan weather, and quiet enough that I never noticed anything. Car definitely rides harsher compared to the same car with the standard 17's (we have a friend with same car but 17's). When we replaced them at 41k miles for normal wear, Belle Tire guy talked us into the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ RFs, and wow these things are loud! Definitely a difference from the Pirellis, and the change occurred with the tire change, so it isn't something mechanical.
