AFM weirdness

Car while in sport mode, driving manually with the paddles car started acting weird.

I know people say the AFM is see less but I'm not so sure about that. Anyone have any comments here or things that I can do. Very weird.

TIA

The AFM seems to turn on in awkward times. At one point I thought tranny was slipping. Felt like power was down. I pulled over worried. No cel no nothing just me mildly stressed lol

It "seems" to turn on at weird times? Set your display to show whether you are in V8 or V4 mode so you know for sure if AFM is on or not. AFM=V4. AFM will come on when using the paddles but it's usually only once and if you downshift, it will shut off and won't go into v4/afm again until you exit manual mode.
If you feel like the tranny is slipping, that's not AFM. AFM is only active with lower throttle inputs. If you give it any decent amount of throttle, v4/afm turns off instantly.

Seems actually is. I have the DIC set up highlighting v4 or v8.

It comes on in odd times.

Doesn't feel so seamless

What are the "odd times" your are referring to? AFM only engages when you are cruising with light throttle application. When you come to a stop at a light, etc. it reverts to V8 mode. When cruising, if you just barely put your foot in it AFM disables. I can't tell when it transitions even as I watch the display change from v4/v8.

You can also test by switching to manual mode, which disables AFM.

I know what you mean. One of the main reasons I bought the range device. It's like its anticipating the need for AFM before it should, hits V4 mode and gets tripped up when you hit the gas because it just switched to V4. Instead of going immediately to V8, it kind of bogs and then the switch to V8 catches giving the impression of a transmission slip. At least that's what happens to me, or slight variations of this. It also became more noticeable after installing aftermarket exhaust. Have you done that?

AFM is very noticeable in my V6. I imagine it would be more so in a V8. I'm still wondering if something else is involved with mine.

Here's a short discussion (there are a few more in the threads as well)...

Sounds like you guys are being "erratic" with your throttle. Or could be driving through hilly areas. AFM will end up doing a lot of switching then but I've never felt it lug unless I'm purposely trying to be light on the pedal to keep AFM engaged. Maybe you can post a video to help show the issue.

No hills. Venice beach LA. And it seems to get confused. When you say manual mode being tiptronic/paddle shifter mode? Because the AFM still engaged in that to

Manual shift mode yes. As jimmypop mentioned AFM will engage once but then it seems to not re-engage later. I've noticed that issue before. Are you in manual shift mode when the weirdness starts?

AFM will engage in any A8 mode, including the paddles on the Camaro. Unlike the Corvette. Only a range or a tune will defeat it

On my 2SS I cannot tell when it switches between 4 an 8 cylinders unless I watch the display on the dash. It will turn on after a second or two of coasting at 30mph or cruising at 70mph. I have noticed that when going slow and it kicks in that the instant mpg reading will show the fuel economy gets several miles per gallon worse and if I bump it down a gear and back up so that AFM kicks out that the mpg goes back up. For this reason, I wish it would not kick in when I am on slow streets.

Mine is the same way, and love the 29.6 MPG I just got on my first road trip.
