ZL1 Manifolds?

I'm wondering if the Camaro ZL1 uses the same exhaust manifolds (headers) as our normal LT1s.

When I had my 08 c6 coupe, I found a take off set of manifolds/cats from a z06 and bolted them up to replace my stockers. IIRC, people were gaining something like 10hp from the swap and it was still smog legal here in CA.

So, are the headers the same for both camaro SS and ZL1, and if not, will the ZL1's bolt up easily and/or make any power on an SS?

Thanks for any help on this

IIRC the LT4 uses a different exhaust manifold then the LT1 in part due to the added EGTs. I may be wrong though...

I had a ZL1 owner measure the exhaust flange when he pulled his exhaust manifolds for a set of headers. Same 2" restriction that the LT1 exhaust manifolds have.....moving on.

Thanks guys - the search for cheaper, easier, hassle-free bolt on parts continues...

The price of headers is not bad really. TSP is a great budget brand. So is OBX and SP. If you're looking to go cheaper than that then I would say just save your money. The price/hassle of the parts and install will make it not worthwhile at all.

Judging by the original post & mentioning CA, it doesn't seem to be a price restraint, rather an emissions issue. No long tube header would be an option in CA, as by design, it moves the catalytic converter from the factory position. Thus, the manufacturer would never be approved by CARB (California Air resource board) for an E.O stamp & number. All after market parts in CA have to have that in order to be legal for use on a emission controlled vehicle. Same goes for any state that has adopted CARB standards. That's why you're starting to see on sites like Summit, if you have a CA address, they have to call you for follow up questions. Makes me glad I live in Texas.

Edit: JBA makes a 50 state legal shorty style header, only option for CA.

If you're going to go with a shorty header setup, go with the Hooker Blackheart set. The Blackhearts are 1-7/8 runners while the JBAs are 1-1/2. Hooker posted an 8 rwhp gain with no tune. These Hooker shorty headers are also 50 state legal.
