Camaro: A Legend Reborn!!
|
So you all with the new top design are telling us @ highway speeds the top does not flop around at all ? I must need a new top then.....My opinion is with the older top if you are having wear in the location where the OP described the top would not have worn. I guess I am wrong-
Step 10 from the manual- 9. Push and hold the rear of the convertible top button. The windows will automatically lower and the convertible top will lower into the rear of the vehicle. A chime will sound when the convertible top has lowered completely. If the radio is on the sound may be muted for a brief time so the chime can be heard. 10. Install the tonneau cover. See Tonneau Cover on page 4‑3.

You can have the opinion that it is needed, but my experience with my old top is, it does not matter is the cover is on or not. If the top touches the back trim, you will get a hole. If it does not touch the trim you will not get a hole (in that location).

Spoke to the dealership today. I don't think I'm going to get much help since they looked up recalls and DSPs find anything that is current. Only thing they found was the one recall that was canceled out

I've had Chevy help me with warranty work on my truck where I was just past the power train warranty. They didn't pay for all of the repairs, but it was 80-85%. I would contact Chevy and see what they say. My dealer contacted them for me.
When I got my top replaced, the dealer did not want to do it. I looked around and found a top shop that would do the job for what Chevy was paying. My dealer agreed to have them do the work and paid them directly. I talked to the owner of the top shop and he had done 3 other Camaros and really seemed like he knew his stuff. He did a great job and knew how to adjust the top so it did not rub. I would look for someone like that in the area.

you can buy the cloth top for $700 - $1000 at many of the online GM parts suppliers. then find a GOOD upholstery shop that has a good track record with installing convertible tops. Take the top to them. there are TSB instructions on how to install the top all over this site you can supply them to the shop. Dealerships do not repair the tops, they outsource the work to an upholstery shop, usually the lowest bidder. expect $1000 - $1500 for the labor, and $1000 or so for the top.

You will need to escalate it to the customer service reps on this site (send them a PM). Do NOT settle for anything less than them covering all costs associated with replacing the top with the improved corded top. It took me 3 months to get my second top replacement approved after warranty but eventually GM will step up an do the right thing. It would be nice if they stepped up first but at least they step up.

I can't say with any surety, but the gaps on my 2013 look a LOT wider with the top down than the pics of the 2010-12 tops. Did they make it like that to avoid the rubbing issue? My cover disappeared with the 1st owner or the dealer.

For all the rub/wear mark issues I've seen, your wear mark is like no other so its not a typical "this design sucks" problem. Almost all the wear marks seem to occur on the second or third rib back from the front, I've never seen one on the back edge like that. Raise and lower the top and look for problem areas. When its all the way down see if it's hitting a bolt or edge and rubbing. There are two bolts on either side behind the top facing forward that when the top is misaligned, may rub. Check the frame directly under it for sharp edges. That mark isn't a flapping in the breeze wear mark, as that back edge is tucked in. It's hitting something it's not supposed to. Good luck!
