I enjoy the Hurst shifter and leather OEM steering wheel at the track and for DD. I think the suede must be a pain in the ass to keep clean from the oils from your hands after a while. I also heard that if you wear gloves while driving at the track the suede will start to wear smooth after a while...

I also think the oils in your hands will discolor and stain the suede. This is also why I did not get the option. |

Thanks for all the messages! I've done my best to put as many miles as possible on it, but the magic 1,500 mile mark is going to be a few weeks away. I think the "break in" period is as much GM's way as preventing new Zl1s from finding the ditch within the first 1,500 miles. Even below 4,000 rpms, there is plenty of power to keep me happy.
Regarding the suede issue, I guess the fact that I'll still have all the OEM leather parts to swap back in a year or two if the suede falls apart/explodes/I hate it/it goes flat/etc. makes my decision to try it a little less of an issue to me personally. Also, maybe its just in my head, but the suede wheel feels a little thicker in my hand. Perhaps its the backing material for the suede that adds a little thickness? |

My suede interior looks the same, as on the first day. My car have now 17.000 miles
Its not a big thing to keep it clear and look like new |

Guys! if you never owned a suede steering wheel why discourage this man from getting one with misinformation? Special_K by all means do get suede its very easy to clean and look after you can buy a cheap 10 dollar suede cleaning kit that will keep everything looking like it came from the factory 20k miles from now. Enjoy!

I didn't get the suede pkg because I REALLY wanted a Silver Ice Metallic, and the one I found didn't have it. But I've purchased the suede shifter for $65 and will try it out. If I like it, it's another $250ish for the steering wheel. Either way, easy enough and inexpensive enough to change out...

Congrats!!! I did the same few unintentional rear wheel spins when I picked mine up!!! Was quite a difference from my SS and took a few drives to get used to the throttle response. What a great car GM made for us!!!
