Getting a lot closer.........Got the Radio all hooked up and installed.......It's the stock AM radio that has been reworked with all solid state insides......AM/FM Stereo and Sirius/XM .......Pretty cool.....The heater/ A/C unit is ready for charging......one problem I had that I knew would be an issue at a later time were the Dome / Console courtesy lights didn't work.....so.....I thought I had something hooked up wrong.......well, today I wanted to get the inside finished up and it was time to deal with that issue.......I had just put some Chinese LED bulbs in those two spots and since they were brand new I never gave it a second thought that the bulbs were no good........LOL.....After checking and replacing the Chinese "Garbage" with regular bulbs everything works just fine.......the only thing that doesn't work out of all the wiring and electrical issues is the console clock bulb..........Got Lucky........Here are some pic's from today.....a long way from a week ago.........The Wheels are finished and are in transit.....so .....we are getting ready for the exhaust system and front end alignment.......

very nice...I love the stock interior including the shifter. Even with the stock type dash the digital cluster with analog gauges looks great!

Not only is this a great build, it's also a great build thread.
kwhizz went from start to finish in about 3 months. And it only took 8 pages. Most of these kinds of build threads are stretched out over 3 years and 20 pages. And they rarely seem to ever get finished. I've enjoyed this thread. Thank you for sharing.

Ken,
Do you do this kind of stuff for a living? Because your work looks very professional. And your timelines are short.

No........Just a Hobby........I'm a Tool and Die maker by trade.......so.... I can't cheat.....LOL..........I got real Heavy into the mid 60's Muscle cars that I grew up with.....I had a little collection.......But....after driving on the Power Tour with Mark Stielow and Charley Lillard with their LS powered cars.......After watching them let their cars sit in hot weather with the A/C on without any heating issues......I saw the Light.....LOL.........The first LS powered car I built was a 37 Ford Street Rod........all steel Club Coupe..(Just sold it last summer)...drove that on the power Tour and was able to keep up with LS cars........But....It didn't have a lot of room for travelling.......so.....I decided to build a car with a large trunk and pull it around with a LS engine.......That's how the convert came about......In the mean time I sold all the other cars as I'm not a Trophy/Car show guy....the convert was such a great car that I didn't need anything else........So......One day my wife and I went for a ride and we stopped along the way and we found this Chevelle for Sale.........LOL.....It was really hard to take it apart as it was so nice........But......I knew it was going to have a LS engine in it.........and here we are.....LOL Heres a couple of Pic's of the 37... The Drivetrain was out of a 06 GTO........Built the Gauge Cluster into the dash and after a year of tweaking we got it to be 100% functional as a stock GTO .........Great Car.......But.....After finishing the Convert I never drove it and it just sat in the garage.......so....It is now down in Texas... |

Great work.
You should make it your career. I would love to do some cars in the same manner as you have. Just don't know how to make a job out of it and make enough money to support myself.

How hard is it to do the motor and tranny mounts? Custom driveshafts and all that?

In today's world all the mounts and Oil Pans are available thru aftermarket companies..........I just didn't like some of the stuff so I made my own.....I have a friend that has a driveshaft machine so that not an issue.....The biggest issue I had with going with the LS stuff was a fear of all the computer stuff......But,......I got hooked up with John at Speartech and he converts all the wiring harnesses and reprograms the ECM and trans controller......he also eliminates all the VATS and emissions programs.......So........I just learned where to go for service (people a lot smarter than me) and info on things I couldn't do .......I really enjoy building these things.....but......once they are finished, they are just cars to be driven.......and we drive them.......LOL |
