Youre right but it looks more brown than orange to me. Granted I'm sure my phone isn't exactly giving me a perfect view.

Yea it looks red on top of the core but brown where it gets deeper. It actually looks pretty clear in the pic.

If someone has put green coolant in there, it would get foamy and brown colored. Had it happen years ago with a 4.3 v6 blazer I had. Actually kinda sludgy.

So I just got home from the dealer and they said everything is normal and working correctly, no holes anywhere nothing. He pretty much said that the sludgey look is from the difference in temps of the coolant. Since our cars have a tube above our reservoir that is just basically the difference. Don't know if I buy that explanation or not

Hmm. That's pretty strange. I'd get the coolant flushed so you are sure to gET all that stuff cleaned out. If that brown stuff is on your thermostat I would imagine it could cause it to stick.

They could & should have at least flushed it out for you, never heard of the temp making it change color.

Ya, get it flushed. Took 3 times on the 4.3. Figured it happened at oil change place, kid probably didn't know to use only dex-cool. It was pretty soon after GM started using the stuff. I remember now, also heard a gurgling noise under dash, sounded like coming from heater core. Good luck.

I agree it looks like oil in the coolant, and I do not know if it is possible to have this problem with the Gen5 cars, but Gen 4 cars could get power steering fluid into the coolant system, and the coolant dipstick looked just like yours. Also, as far as water getting into the oil, your oil pressure is much greater than the water pressure (15 lb caps and such) that it is often a 1 way trip. oil into water. Good luck!
