Android Auto

I recently bought a new 2015 Camaro, had to great discount and I couldn't resist!

Is it possible to have Android Auto installed?
Has anyone done this already?

The easiest and reasonable cost would be to get an aftermarket radio with android auto and install kit.

Android auto is an operating system update for mylink that let's you integrate your cell with the screen on your dash. You need a USB port and the 7 to 8 inch screen for it to work.

My Camaro has both, lt w/ rs package. But all the articles I have read only mention 2016. So I was wondering if it was possible to just update to android auto, for the 2015. Since I have the USB and touch screen already.

Android Auto is only available for the 2016 MyLink/Intellilink radios. The processor in the radios for 2016 have been upgraded compared to the 2015's to handle Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Some people had also complained about the "lag" in the system. They have also removed the pause live audio option and replaced it with the ability to "Direct Tune" channels via an on-screen keypad.

Why do we need all this crap in cars anyway? I guess it's necessary to keep increasing the means by which people can be distracted while driving.

They have rear view mirrors that connect to Android. Not sure what they can do.

My advice is to be glad. GM is notorious for screwing up radios, with On-Star, integration modules, for other devices etc. Don't push them too far until they are proven to be reliable and functional. WiFi, Apple-play, multiple Bluetooth is enough. Android Auto is an accident waiting to happen. Do us all a favor Bluetooth your phone to the car and enjoy the ride instead of being distracted by a screen.

But doesn't Android Auto free you up even more? I tried it and you can voice text over the Bluetooth by hitting the button on the wheel. Better then pushing buttons on the screen for the canned responses.

The bad thing is the new cars that have lane assist and auto braking. Now people will really drive and text and do whatever they want. They'll start trusting the car to keep them safe.
