...... and at the 6 months mark if you don't call, the system automatically suspend storage mode, and return policy to active (found this out last year after bike was dormant due to a prolong cold Spring season and wasn't pressed to ride)....

In N. J., you must maintain the state minumum at all times or surrender your plates. I could only drop collision and then get the storage discount???

What are the insurance regulations where you guys live for none DD cars?
My car has had a clear title since day one so I am able to put it on fire and theft during the months I have it in storage. Typically I will see people run into problems doing this when they still have a car loan on the car. Realistically they don't on the car... the bank does and they want to make sure that the car is always fully insured just in case someone wants to take their car for a joyride.

Wow, have had USAA for 22+ years and never knew there was such a thing as "storage mode." Are the savings significant compared to full coverage? Mine is parked in my garage (really a barn) the entire winter as well.

Wow I had know idea that you could still do that? I have Geico, and will be calling them tomorrow, to see if I can get storage till May. I've had my car since Nov 2012 and I only have 1,495 miles.

Not weekend only, but storage for 5 months - reduced
rate. The problem you're having may be no insurers will cover for weekend only. Mine is USAA storage mode. :-)

I just checked my OnStar vehicle report today and since November until today, I've only driven her 45 miles.

Gotta check out the USAA "storage mode", however. Have never heard of it. Would definitely be advantageous financially, combined with only getting 6 months of OnStar and XM Radio = great savings.
Baba, please do check it out. I have 25 years with USAA = awesome.

Hey OrangeVert, thanks for sharing your experience. I've been with USAA for 35 years and, until yesterday, never heard of their "storage mode" coverage.

I did ask them about reduced rates and they do offer me a "mileage discount" on all 3 of our vehicles as none are driven over 4k miles / year and the Saturn Sky and Camaro under 2k miles / year. Perhaps they didn't mention it because I told them I'd be driving the Sky and Camaro "around the block on a rare occasion" during the winter months just to move them. I'll check with them today.

I have 4 vehicles fully covered. I think the storage mode on SS and Bike save me almost $100 / month.... (I think)...... but best you call them up.....even better, log onto their site and under your auto coverage, you will see the prompt to place vehicle in "Storage Mode".....gl

I drop my collision during the winter while it's garaged. It saves me about $25.00 a month for the roughly 8 months it doesn't see the road.
