Headliner flutter
I tried searching for this without success so sorry if it has been covered before.
Does anyone have a fix for the headliner fluttering above 40 mph with one or both windows down? It acts like a giant speaker and it is hard on your ears. Would like to cruise with the windows down but it kinda sucks right now. |

I happened to notice this the other day. I thought about putting some kind of glue under the edge of it but I'm afraid I'll make a mess. It does seem like this car is prone to making a flutter sound when traveling at speed. Kinda the same noise other cars make if you only have one window down at a time. I usually only roll both windows halfway down to prevent that noise.

Funny this would come up. The window regulator in my '11 Silverado went south and the rear passenger window got stuck in the down position. The "Flutter" noise was unbearable. "Flutter" is a good description. Btw, my '66 Chevelle doesn't suffer from this anomoly with 1 window down.

That's the reason I got my car with a sun roof. When it's open, you don't get the noise.

Buffeting is an issue and usually corrected by only cracking the passenger window open or opening the sunroof (if you have one) to relieve the pressure being created. Funny, I was trying to find the other threads here regarding this and stumbled across this instead:

Hmmmm...I've learned something new. I had always thought that it was just buffeting due to air pressure differential since I simultaneously experience pressure changes in my ears corresponding to the frequency of the fluttering; lowering a second window makes it go away. I also experience the same thing in my '14 Malibu.

Seems that bulletin doesn't give any remedy. I was hoping there were maybe some Velcro or similar fasteners that could be installed at the center of the headliner to keep it from acting like the speaker at the beginning of Back to the Future.

It's not just a Camaro issue. I've had this problem when I owned a Jeep Patriot, & my 2014 Silverado did it as well, no TSB's were ever created for it either. Would sound like a helicopter taking off. Its just the air rushing in the car through the headliner, not much can be done.

I think you have cause and effect reversed.

All I'm saying that it isn't just a Camaro issue.

I believe rootus was replying to OP.
The buffeting/pressure change is causing the headliner to 'flutter'.
