Previous ZL1 vs New SS
After reading some experiences about people missing there ZL1 vs the new 2016 I wondered what everyone who has driven both thinks about the differences ? It seems a good value on the used market but to me the things I don't like Are the interior and the steering wheel and the shifter ... the specs seem similar tho

I almost got a 2015 ZL1, glad I didn't. To clarify, I did NOT own a gen5 ZL1. I only drove a couple of them. While the gen5 ZL1 is a BEAST of a car, gen6 is a whole different ballgame.

I traded in my 2012 ZL1 for a new 2016 SS. Technology is light years ahead on the new car. ZL1 was a black and white television and the new SS is a 50 inch plasma. As far as quickness, I really can't say I notice much of a difference. I do know I'm getting much better fuel economy with the new automatic transmission. The only thing I do miss is the exhaust and the carbon fiber hood vent the ZL1 had. The wider tires and ground effects made the ZL1 look like a real beast and it was, but the new SS is almost hiding what it has under the hood. The ZL1 was in your face muscle, looks wise. The SS is tame looking till you step on the gas. The ZL1 got a lot of attention from those who knew what it was, though the average person just thought it was another Camaro, nothing special.

I have driven both, owned a 13 ZL1, and test drove a 16 Camaro. The ZL1 is a pure beast driving machine, with brutal power. The SS is nice and powerful for the everyday driver with new bells and whistles. I have driven track cars for a lot of years and the ZL1 and Z/28 were the real thing. The SS is nice but not close. The ZL1 is a Cave man to the SS's Justin Beaver.

I too have driven a (stock) '14 ZL1 manual, as well as multiple '16 SS's. The Gen5 ZL1 is a beast, and looks great! However to say that the gen6 SS isn't even close when the gen5 ZL1 was laying down 11.80-12.00 in the 1/4 as seen by many ZL1 owners on the Camaro5 forum. The Gen6 SS AT is seeing regular 11.90-12.20 in the 1/4. So to say that it's not even close... The posted 1/4m times beg to differ.

very interesting comparisons, I think if the Zl1 had better interior I would be all on it, I like the fact that the SS gen 6 can Hide a bit it was hard not to look at the ZL1 or Z28 before I pull the trigger on a purchase

I just saw my first one today, It definitely has presence , I would love to see 1 6th gen around the track vs Zl1, if the Zl1 had great interior and the new steering wheel I would be all in on it as the value is pretty good right now and its taken that depreciation hit

Make sure you drive the Gen6 SS before you drive the Gen5 ZL1.

I have owned both. Both M6es. '16 2Ss with NPP, Nav, and MRC. Both black.
Random thoughts......
That last one seals the deal for me. I do miss my ZL1. But if I can only have one it will be the new CA6 SS.

I have owned a '13' ZL1, and it has a much better suspension than the '16'ss, but as far as quickness, I feel they are equal. Power to weight bad for the ZL1, which weighs at 4200-4300 lbs with 580 h/p. 2016 ss, weighs 3,685 460 h/p. both are fun to drive but the ZL1 is best on the track.
