Canada Insurance Advice requested
Can anyone in Ontario (or Canada in general) recommend their insurance company?
Reason: I want to start shopping around. Issue: I am a middle aged guy and have been with State Farm for about 30 years, six US states, and 10-1/2 years in Ottawa. Never had a problem with State Farm in all these decades, and never checked rates, because the few times I filed a claim for either home or auto, never had an issue. State Farm always excellent. For me service more important than finding the lowest rate. Issue: First of the year State Farm Canada notified all Canadian policy holders they were selling their accounts to "Desjardins Group". This week notified State Farm will be transferring policy holder info to Desjardins. Policy transfer will be completed Jan. 2015. My three decades with State Farm end, Jan. 2015, Desjardins will be my auto and home insurance company. I have called my State Farm agent, agent will not change but insurance for my two cars and personal property insurance transferring to Desjardins. I have no clue who is "Desjardins Group". 30 years with State Farm in both the US and Canada and I am not happy being sold off to an insurance company that I don't have a trusted history with. If you can recommend any insurance company, that you filed claims with in Canada, happy with their service, please let me know. Need both auto and property insurance. I remember about six years ago I was on a road trip from Ottawa to Florida. Windshield broke. I called State Farm Canada and State Farm Canada contacted State Farm US. Windshield replaced in 24 hours somewhere in North Carolina with only my deductible paid. Can I get that kind of service from Desjardins when no one in the US even heard of this insurance company? Help in finding a Canada insurance company for auto/home in Ottawa would be appreciated (an agent in Ottawa helpful but not required). Feel like an old whore and State Farm was my insurance pimp that kept me safe for decades. Feel like my old pimp decided to retire and sold off the stable of policy holder whores to a new unknown insurance pimp. |

Ontario is an insurance rip off. Have a fun time, its like deciding on the best politician, you have to decide which one will at least bring vaseline into the rape room.
