At least tell me that you will be the Corvette driver that actually drives at the speed limit. In all my driving life I have never seen a Vette do anything but putt along in the slow lane. I have passed every one I have ever encountered. I don't get it.

Seems this is another case of the typical Camaro5 mantra "what do you think...as long as it is the same as me?"

OP... cool dude, buy the Z06, have fun. They look great. They perform great.

my points...

#1, multiple cars in NYC is a PITA to park if you ACTUALLY live in the city.

#2, CHEAP Z06s are that, CHEAP... ragged out, pieces of crap.

OH, and I would hope a Z06 is better than a Camaro, they cost what... 2.5X what a Camaro costs...

I don't expect everyone to think like me. But there is a difference between posting an option vs trying to make someone sounds stupid even if their idea actually is stupid. No I don't live in manhattan I live in brooklyn. Where I live there is actually plenty of parking and that surprised even me. The guy upstair has three cars and never has issues with parking. and yes there are some messed up ones out there but there are plenty in excellent condition that people are selling cheap for one reason or another. And the ones in the dealerships are in good condition to. I'm gonna be fixing it up anyway.

It is when i'm paying to bail out the idiots. I'm not specifically talking vehicles here but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm not out to tell him what to do or not to do, i just don't agree with it. Personal opinion. There are a lot of hard working people who save and realize that the day will come when it's right to buy a vehicle like that. At that point, they will have clean credit, have their priorities right, etc. Personally, i will never own a vehicle that is not equally justifiable to my income. I saved since the day i heard the announcement about the 5th gen and happy to say i'm paying 90% of it in cash. What if i lost my job? What about my spouse? I don't want to be put in a position of buying things i cant pay for or keep in the long run if our situation changes. That's just me though. I'm not a typical american when it comes to spending, i'm very conservative, but i realize that good things come to those that wait and work for it.

Good luck with your decision though, there's nothing better than to see people get into the vehicle of their dreams when the time is right. For me, it's probably a 67 Vette w/ a 427 4spd. Those are expensive right now and i'll have to wait until retirement. =)

Oh and the only reason I made it a point to say it was better was cuz you were saying that the idea of getting a used Z06 vs a new camro was silly or something to that extent. I do see your points though and ill take what everyone said into consideration. But just so you know there are plenty of Z06s going for very cheap that are not "cheap".

LOL, we had a 67, only 327, 4 speed back in the early 90s, sold it for like $13,000. LOL!

The Z06's are so sick, i would get one in a heartbeat if they were in my price range and had a back seat. ;-)

Yeah, the muscle car market went absolutely ballistic in the last 10 years. I'm not sure anyone could have predicted that. Thanks in a large part to Barrett-Jackson.

Don't underestimate the Camaro, I sold a 2007 Corvette to get the Camaro, I have ZERO regreats... It was not a Z though... Just a "plain" LS2.

Yeah I'm usually the first one to say to hell with a two seater but the Zo6 is my only exception. I'm not the greatest at saving money its taking all the self control in the world to save what I was saving for a camro but I don't have the patience to wait till I have 30k+ saved up lol. I'm gonna save enough till I can get in the payment range I want finance it and pay it off early if anything. Not married so really don't have to worry bout that yet. I'm kinda wanting to get now before I do get married if I ever do so I don't have to negotiate with anyone about it lol

I think we jacked the thread, sorry about that.

Oh, no doubts that the Camaro will meet my needs for speed and handling. I still think the Vette for obvious reasons is the best performing car in the GM lineup to do almost anything but it should be, that's where it's at in the product portfolio. If i only wanted a sports car and didn't want to carry anything or didn't have to ever worry about having any more than 2 in the vehicle at one point, i would probably have considered the Vette more seriously. That and the history, ALMS/race participation, car corrals, community, etc. the Vette has is top notch. Camaro isn't doing too bad in those areas now either though, this website rocks.

Remember that the LS7 will be old tech in a couple of years, meanwhile the Z28 will probably stick with the current Z06 in performance. I would say wait for the Z28 for those reasons. However your post sounds like you've already made up your mind on a Z06, and I wouldn't even waste time on buying a 4th gen FBody as a ride for the mean time.

Let's say you bought a brand new 2006 Z06 Corvette at a 7% retail mark at the dealership for around $74,000. The wholesale price plus a year of depreciation would place the 1 year old price of your Corvette at around $60,000. The second year value of the car (60,000 x .83) would be around $49,800, third year value (49,800 x .83) at $41,334.

So buying a car at a faster rate of depreciation may make this a bit more interesting. Corvettes have a very odd slope and right now are reaching some of the lowest production numbers in the last 20/30 years. This is viewed by some as a good thing and others a bad thing, your call. This also makes them are hard to compare to other cars. You could use the above formulation to decide they are priced right where they should be.
