It's not a recall, it's a special coverage...you only bring your vehicle in "if" you have that problem.

I got the letter, it states:

Quote:
This letter is intended to make you aware that some 2010 model year Chevrolet Camaro vehicles not equipped with rear tow hooks may have license plate housing retention features that could fracture off the housing. If this occurs, the bulb socket could move out of its original design location, which could cause an illuminated bulb to touch and melt the lamp housing and the adjacent rear bumper fascia cover. The hot rear bumper fascia cover or the hot bulb itself, depending on the severity of the melting at the time, may come into contact with someone who is loading or unloading the trunk.

Do not take your vehicle to your Chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition described above.
There is no recall or TSB number, or any reference number at all.I don't have rear tow hooks, but I really don't know how to tell if I have any housing retention features that could fracture...

WTF.. I've never received a letter this vague from any auto manufacturer before.

The letter says if you don't have the issue don't take it to the dealer

I put LEDs in mine. They don't get as hot so that should solve the issue I figure.

I have a 2011 SS. I pulled my harness back in Feb to replace the regular lights with LEDs. One side where the bulbs plugs in was melted and non functional. After some research it looked like this was a not too uncommon of a problem. I sent GM a nice letter and received a phone call back, but my local dealer never followed up with me. I spent all of $58.07, from Amazon, on a new one and installed in a few minutes.

I received the letter. If I'm reading correctly, I can send the Reimbursement Request Form and a copy of my receipt and I'll get my money back. If not, I'm only out the cost of a stamp at this point.

I got the letter last week. I have a 2011. So the socket falls out of the lens part and melts the bumper? Mine seems fine. I also have LED bulbs, so may not be an issue. Seems GM would replace the faulty part rather than fixing a burned bumper. Is there an updated license plate light I should buy? I'd rather just fix it myself so I know I won't have a problem.

I got the letter for my 2010. However, I don't have the problem at the moment, even with original bulbs.

So I filed the letter in case my bumper melts later on.

You can bring it into your local Chevy dealer too, we'd submit the form for you.
