Not bad. The zl1 looked pretty gutted though. I am Not sure how much a roll cage adds. Ford has some work to do. Dodge should just quit.

to another few: $48K? you can buy one for $48K at www.notgonnahappen.com
(sorry, Peter --I know that's your line) - but I've said it dozens of times that there's no way a ZL1 will be 48K with the many features that are standard coupled with world-class performance.... Oh oh. From the wording of this message I'm gonna read in that the ZL1 may be priced out side of its competitors range. That's unfortunate. |

With a time like that, one thing is almost certain at this point, the 2012 ZL1 will absolutely dominate the current model year GT500 and most likely the 2012 model too. Chevy has really done they're homework with this one! A 50k muscle car which achieves a ring lap time 1-2 seconds within the same time of 200-300k exotics! That in itself is absolutely amazing! Great work Chevy! The GT500 will definitely have it's work cut out for it, but the GT500's problem has never really been making power consistently, it's biggest problem has always been-traction. It doesn't matter if you have 550hp or 700 like the SuperSnake, if you cannot put that power to the ground effectively and your competition can, YOU-WILL-LOSE. And right now, Im more than willing to bet the ZL1 will destroy the GT500 because of that very problem.
What Ford really needs to do is go back to the drawing board and refine the GT500's suspension and the chassis, and most likely give it an ECM tune which will easily bump up the power, and a very good set of tires, all while keeping they're prices within the ZL1's projected ballpark. If they cannot meet or exceed the ZL1 on the battlefield which is the tarmac, then Chevy will have indefinitely put a nail in Ford's side, in this ongoing Muscle-car showdown. Either way, the consumer wins. But I can tell you now, Ford and their many Mustang loyalist, will not swallow that lap-time easily, because it is definitely something the next GT500 will have to either meet or exceed, and Chevy set the standard high with this one! If you want to know if a Mustang fan has a thorn in his side, expect him to criticize, downplay or devalue this achievement by the Chevy ZL1, instead they should be praising it, then telling us "get ready, because now it's on"!

Pretty exciting stuff. I have no intentions of buying one but it sure gets the masses buzzing.

I agree, however, that anyone who downplays this feat is a die-hard fanboy of another make or simply has no appreciation for what has been accomplished. |

Amazing! The ZL1 is surrounded by $150,000+ cars. Some are well beyond that.
