Buy an extended warranty or not?
Hey, Guys.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a Red Hot 2015 Z/28. Only 2,200 miles. Like new with the Trofeos still on it. Paid $66k in case you're wondering. I'm a Z/28 guy. My first one, I bought new in 1980. I didn't want to miss the oportunity to get a hold of what might well be the last Z/28 Camaro. I plan to drive it plenty, but I'll never track it. Anyway, I'm talking to a local Chevy dealer about an extended warranty. I can do a GM warranty, or one they offer self-insured by US Warranty. $1,837 for 3 yr 24,000, $2,003 for 4 yr 36,000. It's a reputable dealer that's been here for 50 years. Both GM and dealer warrany are priced about the same, but the GM warranty is a year shorter for each option. I'm the 3rd owner at 2,200 miles. The cars starts and drives great. I just have natural paranoia, and I think it might give me peace of mind and I won't hesitate to kick a Rustang's ass when I can. Am I crazy to think about pissing away $2k that I'll probably not get any value from. I could use that money to buy tires I'll surely need by the end of the summer. Are these cars known for any mechanical issue I should know about? Thanks in advance. Geno

My $.02
I usually don’t put much weight on warranties and especially GM’s. But I’d say it’d be a good idea if it’s a solid warranty that they’ll stand behind with a $20k replacement engine bill. Mine has a newer gm warranty replacement engine from previous owner. There’s a few issues as with any high performance engine can have. I personally self insure as a better engine can be built for the $ or I do my own labor with GM ls7. Whatever helps you sleep at night is the answer and hindsight is always 20/20. Plenty of folks redo heads for the best insurance. But that’s another thread(s) topic held off for a few cold ones. |

Thanks. Yeah, I'm leaning towards getting it. I appreciate the input.

I just got one too. Mine has about 1500 miles on it and I was thinking about an extended warranty as well. So GM is welling to sale an extended warranty on a 6 year old car? I would rather a warranty from GM then some other company.
Now that prices are so high I don't want to put any mileage on it. |

check the warranty as some warranties through third parties actually reimburse a good portion at the end if you did not use it. At 35,000 Km I had to get all the injectors replaced on my camaro. My base warranty was over however the extended warranty covered it . it would have cost me $2200 for this partciular job. Needles to say I will not be getting ny reimboursement when the warranty is over . Another thing to check is in my warranty the timing belt was also covered so depending on your mileage etc this couod be covered as it is part of regular maintenance

I bought one but it was a waste of money. Unless you are tracking the car not much to go wrong.
