DEALER PUT TIRES ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE CAR WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW FRONT TIRES?

Hello ZL1 crew,

I was detailing my ZL1 last week before going on vacation. I didn't take it but wanted it nice and clean. While I was detailing it I had noticed that the guy who installed the two new front tires on the car at the dealership mounted them on the wrong sides of the car WTF? Now they were installed at the end of June and I just took notice of it last week. I would say there is about 1000 miles on the tires since then. Is it as simple as just taking it to the dealer and have them swapped or would they need to replace them? I am only asking the question because I don't know how significant of an issue this could be. Obviously when we buy tires for these cars you have to buy the very specific tire for each corner. I don't want to underestimate the situation, but also if it is a simple solution just to rotate the tires that is fine too?

Has anyone else experienced this and what was the end result?

Thanks in advance

Um, just jack the front of the car up and swap the front wheels. He simply mounted the wrong wheel on the wrong side. There's nothing more to it than that, and no, you don't need new tires.

You also don't order tires specific to each corner. The fronts are the exact same and the rears are the exact same. The just need to be mounted in the correct way since they are directional.

I believe they are specific to each corner on the ZL1

If only it was that easy. Dude is gonna have to go to the dealership, fill out an SF 372 with the service dept who will then photocopy it and do a GM93 form. After that they may replace the tires or just swap the tires around.

But yea zl1 does have specific tires for FR and FL. I'd take it back to them and have them fix it.

Just swap the tires from side to side and get a relearn tool or have your dealer relearn the TPMS sensors. They should do it for free.

Happened to me a couple of years back. I believe it was when I had them paint the center caps and the ZL1 logo on each wheel.

I was at a car show, sitting in my chair and enjoying the sunshine when a young person came to me and said my tires were on the wrong side of the car.

I just brushed him off , but later on I looked and sure enough they were.

Took the car back to the dealer, showed him, and even pointed out that they were even marked in chalk with RF, LF, RR, LR.

Turns out it was just a simple mistake by a young new apprentice.

Even though they are marked as left and right, it all depends on how you decide which is the left side.

If you're sitting IN the car looking forward, then the drivers side would be the left side.

If you're standing IN FRONT of the car looking at it, then the left side becomes the passenger side, and apparently that's what the new apprentice had done.

No I hadn't put many miles on the tires so no damage was done.

Umm actually they are specific to each corner. That is the reason for the question. But thanks

Well it is obvious there was a mix up. You can clearly see how the front and back direction markers are opposite. There does not seem to be any damage. What I think I will do is have them rotate them to the correct side and have them put in their notes such action in the event there is a future problem Thank you

Get er dun. go back to the dealer and let'm know that you trusted them to do the right job, and it ain't.
1000 miles is kinda of a lot to just notice, but hey...that shouldn't matter.

The front's are side specific, but I don't know if the rims are... May not be able to just rotate, may have to remount and balance... I don't know that I wouldn't request a new set since they've been rolling backwards for that long... Check for a wear pattern... Let us know how it goes...

I'd guess that the rubber compound itself is not uni-directional, it's probably the tread pattern and shape that is designed to be optimal in one direction.

IF that's the case, then running the tire 'backwards' wouldn't ruin the tire, you just wouldn't be getting the optimal traction/grip possible with that tread design.

I forgot to clarify; that would only apply to the original F1 tires. All other brands you buy 2 of the same front tire, then simply mount them correctly on the wheels so that the direction is correct. Did you buy F1's as replacements?
