Can we talk batteries?
I was reading about someone whose battery was suddenly dead & it got me thinking, It is probably not to far in my future until Ruby may need a new one. Soooooooooooo in preparation. Can we talk about good options? I do drive Ruby on some long trips/cruises, do a little drag racing, & a bit of autocross/road racing (just playing around, not serious) hopefully in the future. Otherwise she may attend the monthly car show/event or sit in the garage spring-fall 2 weeks at a time & in the winter, most of the time.
I would like to get a reliable battery that can handle all those circumstances and If I can save some weight, that would be great. So what do your guys suggest.

I just noticed I put this in the wrong section. I meant to click on the LLT section, not sure that would have been the right place either?

You're still gonna get the right answer... wrong section or not! Optima is what I'll replace with when the time comes as well.

Optima red tops price hasn't gone down, but their quality seems to have. I even had battery tenders on them and one went south (bad cell or something) and the other just got weak real fast and once almost left me stranded at work. By chance did I get two bad ones at the same time? I dunno, but I don't trust an Optima anymore.
Bought die-hards and haven't looked back. Saved money too. Battery tenders seem to work well with the die-hards. As far as how they work on 5th gens, I can't tell you. But Optimas are not on my buy list.

The Optima Red tops have lost their quality ever since they've taken their manufacturing facility south of the boarder. They now last half as long. Personally, I'd go with a Sears Diehard "Platinum" which is a rebadged Odyssey or an Interstate AGM.

What about weight? is there much difference in these brands in weight? Are some of the light weight batteries going to be good enough for my application?

Another vote for Odyssey - performs like Optima used to. Not inexpensive but worth it for such a key component.
