Camaro used as bait car

So I took the camaro on a road trip to the Florida Keys earlier this week. I noticed that a lot of people used my car as sorta of a bait car. I would pass them and then they seemed to keep up with me, mirroring my every move. At first, I thought it was my imagination but I noticed that this was happening a lot!

My speed was set at 83 in a 70. So not super fast but fast enough. I would pass these cars like they were standing still then all of a sudden they would catch up and stay about 3-4 car lengths behind me. If I changed lanes, they followed. It was kinda weird. Almost like they were saying "if a cop is ahead, they are going to nail the camaro first"

Anyone else notice this?

I've noticed this in pretty much every car I've ever driven. It seems very common for people to 'follow' other drivers.

I've seen the opposite too. I was behind someone who was going over the limit and had reasonably quick acceleration at several stop lights, then suddenly we end up at a light and the car next to him accelerates very slow and never gets up to the limit and this guy now is going very slow right along side them.

I call these drivers 'sheep', since they obviously need someone to lead them.

It hasn't happened to me because it's usually other cars passing me on the highway, (I go 72, little incident made me change my ways real quick ) but I could definitely see that being the case. A state trooper would most definitely nail the Camaro first.

Don't think you were doing 83 on US1. Boy they had the patrol officers in force this weekend and with all the different speed limits, it was a little frustrating. Plus the traffic was pretty bad on Friday afternoon going down. Took Card Sound Road on the way back to stop at Alabama Jacks and was a little better. At least i could open it up for a while.

Lol, no not on US1. On the interstate down there, 75. I did manage to hit 70 quite a few times on US1 but that was due to a ton of passing those slow pokes down there!! I did c a lot of cops but luckily, I didn't get caught.

Don't worry about them that much... I've seen a lot of cops clock a few cars, then usually pull over the last one... not the first. (Easier to catch up with) To truly bait a car like you're saying... 1/2 mile back usually works, then the cop has already pulled the 1st car over.

Based on your sig, they probably just wanted another look at you. I know I'd try to chase you down...

That's what I always do, find someone else going the speed I want, and fall in behind, let them be my "blocker" and be the first the radar picks up!

They may also assume you have a radar detector. Most people with fast cars do.

LOL ... It's not the car, it's the fact you were taking point on the highway.

I do this all the time but slightly different. People think they are using me as bait, but really I am using them. I call it the sling shot.

I drive the same route everyday and I mark every spot a cop has ever camped out at.
I make sure the car following me isn't too far behind and I always slow down and get behind them and switch to the middle lane when I reach a known spot.
I've seen quite a few fall for this and get pulled over instead of me because they want to be the leader or trying to race me.
