The 2025 Ram Ramcharger is an electric truck that gets its EV juice from a gas-powere

Nice!

That is the way it should have been done from day 1. Diesel locomotives figured this out about 100 years ago. It's much easier to run a cable to an electric motor in a wheel than it is to build a differential and drive line.

Ramcharger seems like a good idea. It will be interesting to see the performance, reliability and how they sell. Will be watching for pictures of your new zl1.

Exactly.

It just makes sense, and not just for trucks, but for pretty much any class of vehicle aside from something that could be defined as "just" a local commuter car, if that makes sense. Otherwise, this type of hybrid helps alleviate so many issues that full EV vehicles cause.

No range anxiety (no more than ICE vehicles anyways)
No need to sit for long periods charging (if you can find a reliable charger)
No compromise on EV performance
Smaller batteries are a very good thing! (less hit on the environment, less cost)
No need to completely overhaul our entire electric grid to accommodate a world with only full EVs running around.

Potential compromises with this truck will be the complexity of the drivetrain, and the additional cost over a traditional ICE truck. Fingers crossed on those two.

Maybe gm will wise-up and dust off the voltec platform and put it to use. People were pretty happy with the Volt.

I wish, but they've said over and over again that they will not develop hybrids further (Corvette E-ray being the exception and long under development). If you want a PHEV, you'll have to look outside of GM's stable. They are going to try and gain the manufacturing efficiencies as quickly as possible in a world where market forces matter less with each passing day.

Any guesses for base MSRP on one of these? I haven't seen anything talking about pricing in any of the newsfeed hype.

I'll start the bidding at $85k.

I think a ic engine not connected to the accelerator pedal is okay for a truck but not for a sports car.

Sure I'll play.

I think the RamCharger will launch as fairly or mostly loaded truck (think Laramie or up trim), so that won't "help" much with pricing either.

Supposed to be more expensive than ICE, but at least somewhat less than their full EV RAM REV truck. Current ICE RAM Laramie crew with no options other than 4x4 starts at roughly $59K, so I think I'll be more optimistic and go with a starting price of $69K.

If Stellantis is willing to lose money on every unit to start out, to get a foothold, anything would be a SWAG, I suppose. I like your "in between" pricing logic but there's a lot of new tech for them going into this. $69k and downward would be pretty attactive if the hype is real.
