I've never heard so many people hating on BP. We got our highest MPG on BP gas (compared to Shell & Tom-Thumb brand). We only use Shell now since they're 20c cheaper per gallon.

I don't really trust any of the gas companies anymore...around here they all apparently use the same transport company....I see the same truck at just about every station in town...who knows what the driver is putting in the tanks....Shell,BP,Exxon...could be the same gas at all of them for all I know. I do know that I have had my car go into low octane mode on 93 from 3 different stations...on base(military, same transport company as out in town)twice,Exxon once and Shell once...but both the Exxon station and the Shell station I have had good results with before,so it seems to be hit and miss..further fueling(lol) my paranoia that there is no telling what you are getting now days....at least around here.

As for "octane boosters" 99% of them you buy at places like Autozone are junk...TORCO Accelerator is one of the very few true octane boosters IMO...and unfortunately it leaves a red residue in the combustion chamber and isn't good for O2 sensors. But so little would be required to make sure you at least had 93 that it probably wouldn't hurt to add a splash if you doubt the octane rating of the fuel..Remember though that too much octane can hurt performance...you want just enough to prevent knock.

This happened to me about 17 years ago, and it was an Amoco station. Car was a Honda Accord. Filled it up and within a couple miles, same thing as you described.

I had to go back and forth with Amoco corporate. Save all receipts, repairs, rental and documentation of the fuel sample (I seem to recall this being done). I finally got a check from Amoco to pay for the damages (seems like it was a few hundred dollars). It took a while but I was able to get it done.

I'm totally sure a Republican would have blocked that merger, after all Republicans love market regulation, and it's not like the oil companies are in Big Red's pocket or anything...

Could there be some monkey business going on....times are tough, the rich want to get richer ect...I mean whose going to notice...are you guys sending fuel samples to the lab to get the octane checked? And when does the Fed check it? It could leave the plant as 93..but if the driver is instructed to put some low into the high...who would know? just saying...

Doesn't take much water to make the mixture non-combustible.
Most cars have a bleed valve on the fuel rail, so you may be able to just cycle the fuel pump and bleed enough gas out the valve to tell whether water is mixed with gas. If it contains water, the mixture will be milky looking.

I probably would have tried adding something to the gas to disperse the water and see if it would start before going to a dealer.

Well i got my car back. I'm really embarassed to say what the problem was.
Well aparently the coupling on my intake came loose and the engine wasnt getting a proper reading from the maf sensor. What gets me is all I had to do was look under the hood. That was a hundred dollar mistake. I feel like such an a%%. We live and learn I guess.
