It's my only car, so I drive it everywhere. I'm not going to spend that much money on something and not use it.

I bought my SS for daily use. It has seen three NJ winters and performed well driving in the slop. The first two winters were pretty hairy with the P-zeros. One particular evening leaving work, the air temp was 17 deg. F. All four tires developed flat spots and took about five minutes of driving to warm up and return to their original round shape. This past winter I changed the tires to Goodyear Sport all-seasons and it's like a different car. Wet weather performance has improved. Snow performance is excellent. It actually does better than many FWD cars. I suspect that the manual transmission helps in these situations. And now the kicker...I thought I would be comprising dry traction by switching to all-season tires. This has NOT been the case with the Goodyears. During spirited street driving they seem to perform as well as the P-zeros. I was quite surprised by this. I suspect that the compromise would become evident on a road course but since I don't track my car this is not an issue.
I know lots of people have criticized these cars for being overweight. That's their opinion. I bought this car because it is big, heavy, and safe, making it a perfect daily driver in brain-dead population dense South Jersey. Dieing in a car accident is not how I want to go out. I've always kinda hoped to have a massive heart attack during a wild sex orgy with hot college co-eds, but that's just me. Sure there are more efficient commuter cars, but I look at the added fuel cost as being similar to paying for life insurance. Oh and here's something we all need to be aware of when using an SS as a commuter car. They can stop in a much shorter distance than most of the cars on the road. You have to be aware of this when some moron is riding your bumper. Because of this I tend to increase my following distance significantly when I have a tailgater breathing down my neck. This tends to piss them off even more, but that's just what they deserve...to be more pissed-off. One last thought here. I'm a car guy. Cars are one of my favorite hobbies. Using the Camaro as a daily driver allows me to enjoy my hobby every day. I hate my job but I look forward to driving to work so I can enjoy my car. Leaving work at the end of the day is even better...traction and stability controls go off and the fun begins. |

Almost 29000 miles in just over 2 years as a DD. It may become a dedicated track toy down the road, at which point I will get a fuel efficient GM for a DD, but that is after it is paid off.
