Welcome to America. I see a bunch of people that have apparently just moved here and are unfamiliar with the awesome tax system that we have. Here is your introduction, now go out there and work hard so the government can get some more of your money.

Congress established Gas Guzzler Tax provisions in the Energy Tax Act of 1978 to discourage the production and purchase of fuel-inefficient vehicles. The Gas Guzzler Tax is assessed on new cars that do not meet required fuel economy levels. These taxes apply only to passenger cars. Trucks, minivans, and sport utility vehicles (SUV) are not covered because these vehicle types were not widely available in 1978 and were rarely used for non-commercial purposes. The IRS is responsible for administering the gas guzzler program and collecting the taxes from car manufacturers or importers. The amount of tax is posted on the window stickers of new cars - the lower the fuel economy, the higher the tax.

The gas guzzler tax is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of in my life. Let's tax inefficient cars so people won't buy them, even though they gas up more often, thus leading to more tax revenue.

Taxation systems never make any sense no matter where you go. Up here in Canada we pay federal and provincial fuel taxes that are included as part of our price per litre of fuel and then we pay sales tax on the amount of the total purchase ergo tax on tax As others have mentioned gotta pay to play. Unfortunately I vent my frustration through my right pedal which only benefits the tax collectors more

Actually it's rather brilliant, it's no different that tobacco or alcohol ... It hasn't stopped folks from smoking or drinking.

Ehhh, beg to differ as I know plenty of people who refuse to give the government any money through the GG tax. Some won't mind, and others will I guess

Well it should not say on the sticker"Gas Guzzler TAX" then. I have a friend that bought one in OKC and he said he raised enough you know what and the tag agent took it off. I will question it at my local tag office also and see what happens.

Good luck with that, I wouldn't believe the friend for a minute ... He's probably just talking all tough.

Thank god oregon does not have any of this extra tax crap. Just the retarded tax itself. Tax on a Tax should not be allowed. it makes no sense. Our own government needs to read the history books over again. We would still be part of england if it were not for gay taxes.

People who make statements like you have to pay to play need to go kick themselves in the JUNK imediatly. There is no logic behind tax on a tax. I would have found a way around that if we had it in oregon or made the dealer lower the price more to cover that. At some point it is jus the principle of the thing.

Just pay the damn thing. Everyone has to pay the GG and most have to pay taxes on it as well. If you're concerned about this after driving this car, maybe you should have bought a GT 500.
