People still do this

A coworker of mine still wears driving gloves when he is in his Grand National or GMC Cyclone. He says he doesnt want to put the wear and tear on the steering wheels. Please tell me that my Camaro family does not do this when driving their beloved Camaros? I thought this went out with mullets and hammer pants.

people either wear gloves because it is cold, or because they are stealing a car.

I've put a nice leather steering wheel cover on before, but never gloves unless it's because it's cold.

"Driving gloves" were pretty hip in the 60's and 70's and still serve a very useful purpose.

Unfortunately, it appears that most often anyone seen wearing driving gloves is ridiculed as being egotistical, elitist, neurotic and "gay", just to name a few.

Driving gloves serve several purposes:

1. Protection for your hands

2. to have a better grip / on the steering wheel for purposes of vehicle control (not all cars had power steering - esp. in Europe) and "road feel".

3. To serve as protection for the (wooden) steering wheel and other parts of the interior that are often touched / operated from the oils and dirt found on the hands.

If you don't think your hands are FILTHY the vast majority of time, keep on thinking.
