Manual or auto? I'm sure it makes a difference on the way down!

I haven't taken the Camaro up there, but I remember from other cars that the clearance between other cars, drop-offs, etc, can be really tight. Did you experience any issues with visibility/sight lines, etc?

Made it half way up on my bike in 2005. Quit when it turned to gravel with 4 miles left and the incline raised about 5 or 10 more degrees! I only had about 5000 miles under my belt on two wheels then. Too scared of the trip down on the gravel to make the top. Crazy road! Congrats. Badge of honor for that, even in a car.

It's a crazy road. Weather conditions can vary more than you would believe. Back in '99 I went up there in a Caddy. Conditions on the ground were clear and 60 degrees. By the time we reached the top the temp was in the 30's, visibility was a few feet, and the wind was strong to slam the car door shut.

My girlfriend had to stick her head out the window a few times on tight corners but if you adjust your mirrors in a way that you can see the road next to you its not bad at all, little bit sketchy at times but well with it

A few years ago, I took my '82 Berlinetta to the top of Pikes Peak. That Berlinetta has 104 hp at sea level (really), and at 14,000+ ft., that 104 hp was more like 8 hp (that's hamsterpower). I had the thing floored, and it would just sort of hum along at 25- 30 MPH... not a bit faster. It just couldn't get any air.

Gave me a different respect for the cars that race this mountain: It's not JUST driver skill that is required, it's mechanical skills to build a powertrain that works well at both lower and higher elevations.

Sometimes I wish I lived near mountains, and then winter comes around and while I'm still sipping margaritas by the lake or the ocean, I'm like..nahhhhh!
