Free Oil Change

Is the free oil change a GM thing or a dealership thing? Reason I ask is that I bought a used 2017 with 247 miles on it. So I will quickly get to the 500 miles. I also have no doubt that I will have to have the tranny fluid level fixed and the front springs replaced.

Not true. Certified Used cars will get 2 free oil changes at any dealer. I have a feeling with 200 mi, the OP bought a certified vehicle.

Didn't buy from a dealer. So does the oil change attach to the buyer or the car? Obviously the car has not had an oil change.

My dealer gives free oil changes for life if you buy new.

The oil changes stay with the car, and you have two years and 24k miles to burn them up. Your dealer can tell you if they are still available.

^ this. In fact, it used to be 4 in 2 years. But that went out the window along with the 100k mile powertrain warranty.

My dealer told me 2 within 24,000 miles or 2 years. I bought mine used with 12,000 miles on it from CarMax.

I got this lucky deal as well.

GM gives 2 years, 4 free oil changes as part of their maintenance package. Anything over that would be dealer based.
