Is there a production date set yet?

Has GM made a statement concerning when production will start? When will they hit the street?

If they had, i'm sure this forum would be in the know.

I would guess first possible word would by on May 16th.

Number3 and Fenwick have lots of experience in the timing of things, they may be able to put forth an educated guess - I think #3 has already, but that was well before reveal date was announced. Late Fall

I don't know if production means they will start production or if that term is used to say it is available to drive off the lot. My guess is they are two different things.

My hope is within 9 months, but really...who knows, could be 18.

Is there typically a long lag between the start of production and when cars show up on dealer lots?

I can't imagine GM would produce cars just to have them sit around for a while before they are sold.

I would guess that the start of production and the sale of the first 6th gen would be within a couple weeks of each other, at most, which is just to give time for transport.

I have followed several new car releases and it usually goes like this. Start of production they make a small run of from 200-300 or so cars that are gone over with a fine tooth comb to iron out any production issues. After they pass inspection then regular production starts slowly and then ramps up as inspections of quality show they are being done as expected.
From following the Saturn Sky production, I got one of the early ones that were held for inspection, Vin 251. It was approximately 3 months from the time they started production until I got mine in the first shipment the dealer received. I know some got their's earlier than I did so I would say 2 1/2 months would probably be a good estimate.

That's good info. I would hope that production would start before October then, or we won't see these cars on dealer lots until 2016.

Hopefully October is when the cars start showing up on lots, although that would require the production to start in August at the latest based on the expected time line.
