I'm not really sure what you're getting at. You seem to believe that GM will either a) not build anything better than an SS or b) if they do, it won't be competitive to the Ford or Dodge equivalents.

For a) ... really? Really?

and as for b), odds are the next ZL1 will have an LT4. It would probably weigh 3900 lbs or less. Thats 6 lb/hp ... thats not merely competitive, thats beating the competition. So what if it doesn't make as much power as the Hellcat ... isn't a better ET waaaay more important? Of course, by the time that happens I doubt they'll still be building Hellcats -similar to how there was no Boss 302 built concurrently with the Z/28 this time around.

And while it looks like Ford is trying to go all out with the GT350 in terms of handling, we have no idea what it will actually do. There was great hope for the IRS equipped Mustang GT but the outgoing 1LE still beats the track-pack GT. Maybe GM's going to whiff on the 6th gen's handling. Stranger things have happened. But with everything that they've said so far with the stiffer chassis, lighter suspension, and so on ... they clearly care about making the Camaro handle well. Does it make the slightest bit of sense that, after seeing the success of the 5th gen Z/28 and 1LE, and having a better platform to work off of now, that a next gen Z/28 would have no hope of hanging with a GT350?

Where are all these GT500s that are being sold? I don't think Ford has built one since 2013

Anyone have any idea what the insurance would be for a 700HP car?

The difference between a V6 and an SS Camaro is practically nothing. My 2013 SS is exactly $1,000/year (to the dollar) and I have very enhanced coverage that maxes out all the suit requirements (well above full coverage). I also live right outside of Philadelphia, so it is one of the highest insurance rates in the country. It is my only car and my daily driver, so when you think about all that it's very affordable. I doubt the Hellcat will be a lot more than a regular SRT8 Challenger. Probably a 0-10% premium. Your driving record is what really matters.

I don't think GM will top the Hellcat in raw power. Its just like the 60's when the Hemi back then made a statement. Dodge wants their new Hellcat Hemi to make a statement today. People will remember the Hellcat engine, it certainly gets a lot of press.

And just like the HEMI then, few people will actually see one on the street and fewer will get to own one. The 440 and 340 were much more common, just like the 5.7 and 6.4 cars today will be far more common.

Very true, but almost everyone knows the word Hemi, and Dodge is trying to build another legend to which I think they will succeed. I wish GM could up them in HP but I don't think its going to happen.

I thought that's why they made the COPO Camaro.. For the dragstrip? I would rather GM spend that development money else where..

650 on the LT4 is enough for me. I know there are plenty of folks that want more, and you can probably get your 800HP package aftermarket. I know I know, it's better if you get it from the manufacturer, warranty and all...just wait until the warranty is expired and go nuts

Also, i have read, i think on Jalopnik, the reviewer of the Hellcat said that the way it utilizes its 707 HP reminds him of the early Vipers - the scary to drive ones.

then there's the guy who wrecked his Hellcat 1 hour after buying it...

Anecdotal as those points are...650 is enough for me

If that is the case I vote that they make all Camaro's 700HP.

LS engines are a modern day legend, but it's more for people "in the know". It doesn't have a Hemi or Ecoboost tagline, but any car guy or gal knows, LS engines are where it's at. Hopefully LT becomes the same.

As said, GM doesn't need to go 708+hp to beat the Hellcat. 650 will be faster in a straight line and we already know the Dodge's can't come close to keeing up with a gen5 on a track, let alone a what the gen6 is looking to be.
