MCS 3-Way Adjustable Coilovers R&D and Install
I usually play on the Camaro5 side as I have a 2013 Camaro 1LE, but we have a client in having new MCS prototype coilovers installed on this 2016 Camaro SS. Today, I spilled over into the Camaro6 side to share my excitement with fellow enthusiasts. I'll update the thread as we progress through the installation. This is a prototype fitment, so the updates may be slow as we insure proper fit and finish.
At this point, we have already sent out the OEM suspension bits to MCS to have them measure the components. We received the components back, installed, realigned, and got the client back on their way while MCS developed the coilovers. We just received in the prototype coilovers and the client has dropped off his car for us to begin the process of installing them. We currently have the MCS 3-way adjustable coilovers, Ground Control rear height adjusters, and Ground Control camber plates here. The final alignment will take place once we confident everything else is correct. 11/30 Update - The rear height adjusters did not fit ideally, so we sent the fitment concerns to Ground Control and they will be sending us new rear components to try out. Stay tuned! 12/6 Update - The new design rear height adjusters have arrived in. We will be working the Camaro into today's schedule to test fit them And they fit! Stay tuned for continued results 12/13 Update - We were able to mount the reservoirs for the front remote reservoirs while waiting for the new springs to come in this afternoon. We mounted the front reservoirs to the strut tower braces, and the rear reservoirs will be routed shortly. The front springs are 700lb springs and the rears are 1600lb springs. Those look proper! Can't wait to see the final result.
Their 3-way adjustable systems seem to be $6k+... I'm sure the car will ride/handle/sit very well with the proper adjustments.

Yea, MCS is definitely more motorsports/competition oriented. The 3-way adjustable units are quite costly, but they also make significantly less expensive single and double-adjustables:
http://motioncontrolsuspension.com/products/ I don't really know their product plans, but I suspect that once the solution is developed you'll be able to order any of the options for the Gen6. Edit: I should also state that it's my car in the pictures, heh. It is an autocross car and I just won a SCCA Solo National Championship in F-Street with it. I'm switching to STP (Street Touring Pony) for next year and the suspension is a major part it. Last edited by rotis; 12-02-2016 at 11:03 AM. |

Nice! I'm sure you'll notice a big difference right away
Does STP allow forged 19" wheels? Gen6 wheels are notoriously heavy.

Yes, you can run any diameter wheel - and width can go up to 11". I'm getting 18x11 Forgestars made so I can run 315mm Rival-S tires. 19x11 would be a good option if you wanted to run RE-71Rs or V720s.
18x11 would be very difficult to fit with the stock struts because of interference with the strut ears - the MCS design is a little different and has more room inboard. Last edited by rotis; 12-02-2016 at 03:12 PM. Reason: clarity |

yep. Not the best angle, but this is what the strut ear looks like. The spring perch will be above the tire and the wheel barrel should clear the spindle, so the strut body is the limiting factor. I have ~1.2" of room from the stock tire to the strut body with the way it's aligned here-

Yeah that setup gives you a bit more room. Let us know how it all works out when you're done.

Yep! They just updated the rules so all STP cars get 11" wheels and 315mm tires now. There were some other changes also, doc here-
