Chevrolet Almost left Nascar!

Think of all the fans that would have stopped watching and how utterly boring Nascar would have turned into if all it was were Ford Vs. Toyota? We all know Dodge has pulled out and according to this new article Chevrolet almost decided to do the same as well.

GM backed NASCAR into a corner. They wouldn't have let that happen.

The "Car of Tomorrow" will probably go down as one of the biggest flops in NASCAR history. It basically eliminated driver skill factor and car manufacturer design/personality. The only thing it really improved was safety technology. The new 6th gen cars are a nice welcome. NASCAR will never be "stock car racing" again (due to safety and politics) but at least the 6th gen brings some personality back. I'm interested in seeing/hearing reviews of the 6th gen throughout the 2013 season.

Also, imagine if GM left NASCAR. It would be a Ford vs. Toyota contest, which would probably make some hardcore fans leave NASCAR......just like the departure of Dodge.

Although I did like the comments in the article about the Camry race car. Imagine if Toyota Motor Company had to base their entry on a production RWD V8. Lexus owners would abandon their brand en masse if the $71K LS 460 made an appearance as a race car in the Daytona 500.

I guess that's why they are both more popular than NASCAR in the US then.

That's only because NASCAR has been around forever and a year. That shouldn't give them an excuse to do stupid things.

V8 Supercars is a perfect example of what NASCAR should be. The cars aren't production cars, they're constructed similar to NASCAR "stock" cars. However they still have four doors, they still look exactly like what you can buy in a Holden or Ford dealership. Oh and they turn the steering wheel in both directions more than just a few races out of the year.

If they don't get it right this season, tickets are gonna be cheap! They can't keep putting out 450 miles of boredom followed by 50 of racing or fuel management. TV will back out quick. I grew up watching NASCAR-(Gran National) highlights on Wide World of Sports. They didn't broadcast the whole race, I can see that coming very soon. They have to get rid of the snooze factor that they have built into these cars.

I still like watching it... Stock car or magic carpet...those jokers are doing almost 200 mph and that's pretty cool.

The quality of car has been going up and the driver quality is also very high. They just make it look easy. At 180+ that's not very easy at all.

Oh yes it is!!! Just ask anyone on this forum!!!... They could do it blindfolded with an automatic ZL1 (heavily modified of course), on wet pavement, in reverse. LOL

Might have something to do with speed tv being unaware of pretty much any other racing series but nascar...
