I fu$$$d up!!

I was downshifting into fourth and hit the gas at around 60-70, and I accidentally switched into second instead, and now I have a clicking noise in the engine bay. I don't know what it is and unfortunatly not familiar enough to know. Any input would be much appreciated!

your pushrod could be bent or a bad lifter; get your engine checked out before it locks up and youre really fkd.

There was someone on here recently that downshifted into 2nd trying to go into 4th, I'm sure some can find his thread for you. He messed up his car as well.

I am at 8500 miles just bought it about 8-9 months ago, luckily I don't think mine is as bad as the other threads. Is this something I can help prevent with better pushrods?

So, honest question for the OP and others.

The lower the gear you attempt to get into at higher speeds, the more of a resistance you feel pushing it in. So, forgetting about the physical position difference, can you not "feel" a difference downshifting into 2nd when going for 4th by how hard you have to push to get it into gear?

You don't need better PUSH rods!!!! YOU need to learn your shift pattern

Don't our 6MM transmissions get us to 78 mph in second gear?

Someone correct me if I am wrong on this but the only thing that could be changed to minimize (but not necessarily prevent) this would have been stronger valve springs, or a lighter valve train all of which are very expensive. Your engine's valves were traveling so fast that the the valve springs were not strong enough to close them in time as the piston was coming up in the compression or exhaust stroke. The valves were essentially "floating" open and when the valve came in contact with the top of the piston something got bent. Most likely a valve or pushrod. Depending on the severity of the overrev there could also be damage to the pistons, heads or even cam and timing chain. That is why it is called a "money shift."

I am also sorry to say that this will most likely not be covered under warranty and it probably will be expensive.
