Bobby Gentry Muffler up in Denton would be good and reasonably priced. Also, you could talk to Lewisville Muffler on Mill St.

I also had a v6 before my SS with obnoxiously loud exhaust too (not sure the brand, got the car used and never found out), so it's probably not as bad for me as with a lot of other people.
BUT, the AFM kicking in on the L99 with a muffler delete can be REALLY annoying. Fortunately all it takes is a little pump of the throttle and it pops back to normal, but being in traffic or in between stoplights there's not much you can do. It's tolerable, but one of those things that can become annoying after a bit. Highway speeds I don't notice it, and I normally don't keep my music up like I did in the v6 so that's not drowning it out or anything. Personally I'd rather have the muscle sound and deal with the AFM noise, especially since you said a tune isn't far away. It's not bad enough, in my opinion, to just not do the delete. I love the sound of the muffler delete, especially being as cheap as it is, so the AFM noise is something I'm willing to deal with for the time being. It also crackles and pops A LOT. On start-up it pops a bit and when you romp it, it crackles a lot on decel. I absolutely love the popping, and get a ton of heads turning from surrounding cars. Side note: Ordering my Borla Atak axle back this week, so I get to replace my muffler delete anyways! |

BravoMyles, thanks for your honest input. I will probably get the muffler delete soon, and I have noticed the popping and crackling with the factory exhaust. I loved that on my V6 too, it just sounds cool.
Caverman, we met around 6 Saturday evening in Southlake for old times sake after Cars and Coffee that morning. Half the people who said something about coming didn't show though! I'm just not seeing as much interest as we used to.

I think I've convinced myself to go ahead and skip the muffler delete, although I love the sound. And I just can't get over how much these cat backs cost, I mean it's ridiculous. So I think instead of spending a hundred or two now and 900 outrageous dollars later on, I'm going to plunk down $450 for the CNT Racing 3" cat back and just be done with it. Then I can use the money that I would spend on the Solo later to buy some 1-7/8" headers instead :-)

I had a quick question about this.
With doing a muffler delete, do they attach a plain ol' pipe in place of the suitcase looking muffler ? I went to a local muffler shop and they quoted me like $80. They said they'd do it and weld on a piece of cheap looking pipe in place of that muffler and it kinda disappointed me. I am definitely a newbie but I just wasn't expecting some construction looking metal pipe on the bottom of my car lol. Or should I hit up a more reputable shop like Lethal Performance here in SATX and see what they say? |

Yeah. It would be some cheap pipe. I got quoted $200 from a muffler shop here in Grapevine to do mine, which I thought was a bit ridiculous. You've got to understand most the time people want a muffler delete it's because they want to spend as little as possible. If you wanted a good quality pipe and tip you could get the Doug Thorley muffler delete kit for $200 and put it on yourself to save the labor.
I ended up spending $450 on a CNT Racing 3" cat back system, which looks great. One of the mufflers rattles but it's got a warranty so no problem there. It's got a good sound, not loud enough to wake the neighbors but much much better than stock. I've probably got as much drone as a muffler delete though, it's not exactly a tuned exhaust like Solo, but hey it was $450.
