If you sir are a stock M6 camaro SS, next to a e92 M3 DCT with a v8 from a roll, you might find yourself in more trouble then you think. That DCT car comes in at 3500lbs

You're sorely mistaken.

I totally understand. To me it looked like I surprised the guy but then again he probably thought I was stock. His ride was strong for sure though.

The M3 is the V8 with 414 hp and 295 tq, with a 0-60 recorded at 3.9, a 1/4 mile of 12.4 @ 114, and a top speed limited to 178 mph. It should give my SS all it can handle.... and maybe more! Of course with an As-Tested price of almost $80,000 in 2011, it certainly should!!

Definitely going to come down to the driver and who can put the power down quickest!

I think it's funny, all the comments on the M3 V8 being slow, the M3 lack of torque will let my SS run away from it, the M3 is a pig, etc etc! The performance numbers don't seem to agree with any of that. I agree, that when looking at hp/tq and weight numbers, the SS with significantly higher horse power and torque should walk the M3, but reality seems to put them much closer in real world performance!

If/when he buys one it won't be long before we find out!!

Okay people, I raced an e92 M3 DCT from a roll in my A8 SS (the other night before I traded it in for my manual 2SS) from 80-120ish. We were neck and neck with neither car pulling at all. I was surprised to be honest. I talked to the M3 owner. He was stock with DCT.

My new SS 6M clearly feels stronger/faster (in gear) than my A8 SS did. The A8 shifts faster and has the advantage from a dig but the manual just goes quicker as the speeds increase. The SS is about 200 lbs heavier but has 160 more torque than the V8 M3. The e92 M3 average dynos around 350 after a quick search..

Agreed. BMW (and Porsche) have been notorious for sandbagging their HP/TQ numbers. Some of those care dyno at the rear wheels what they use in their advertisements.

It's like the comments about SRT / Scat Pack Challengers being "pigs" and "too heavy", but some of those guys are very low 12's on the track, and that's not a slow car.

I'll tell you from first hand experience that he's gonna have to put some big $$$ into that car to beat a stock 6th gen camaro SS.

Read the evidence in this thread, it's much closer than you might think.

The e92 M3s are very fast cars, especially if the driver keeps it in the powerband... but based on my experience I don't think your buddy will have any solid chance of actually beating you in a straight line race.

The 6th gen Camaro is a beast from any RPM, and considering you have the A8, there's just no situation it can't use all of it's potential. Even if the race happens from peak power of both cars, I don't see the M3 pulling away - until you get deep into triple digits... our cars aren't the most aerodynamic...

As I do understand, this is a previous gen m3. They are slow. Easy work for camaro. Especially from a dig.

He just sent me a text that he's looking at one with full Dinan upgrades! Gulp!! May need that blower install sooner than I had planned!

Of course the 6 year old M3 has an asking price of $39k, so I'm not sure he'll be willing to spend that much!
