2016 Camaro weight speculation

Well.. Sort of.

ATS-V weight has been publicised at 3600lbs.

Check the link
http://jalopnik.com/the-2015-cadilla...and-1657355253

If the ATS-V is a twin turbo V6 with all possible luxuries, what will a stripper LT1 camaro weigh?

This is my first post here. I've been following the camaro since camaro5.com more or less. I registered because i could not believe why no one had brought this fairly new info up yet?

Please, discuss

Not sure about that link as I can't get it to work, but it could be the same as this

http://wot.motortrend.com/1411_leake...d_in_full.html
we get a "daily" automotive news here at work since we are automotove supplier to Camaro/GM and this is one came through today.

Although the weight of the ATS-V is interesting, I don't think that we can draw any definitive conclusions about the weight of the new Camaro.

The link is working here!

No, we cant draw any conclusions. But this the ATS-V is the same platform. It's a fully loaded twin turbo v6 most likely used as a test ground of some sort for the camaro. If a fully loaded ATS-V weighs 3600lbs, and a base model weighing in at 3350, dont you find it likely that the new camaro will weigh no more than 3600lbs in v8 trim?

If not please enlighten me.

3600 lbs sounds like a decent estimate. I personally think the v8 camaro will come in a bit heavier, I'm guessing a tad under 3700 lbs.

And on a side note, the ATS V is shaping up to be a mighty fine car, and the GT3 spec race car is looking pretty nasty.

I agree that it will likely be around 3,700 lbs. I'm sure they will put beefier drivetrain in it. However it does make you wonder about the net weight difference between the engines. The LS series of engine is light for what it is and I believe the LT1 weigh's like 30lbs more than the LS3. With the LF3 being DOHC and has turbo + plumbing I'm willing to wager it is close to being a wash.

If the 6th gen. SS comes out weighing <3700 lbs I will be delightfully surprised.

DOHC, turbo, piping, intercooler and what not.. A LT1 camaro sporting the same horespower as the ATS-V, should be lighter. Im thinking the caddy also is heavier due to is being more luxurious.

If they dont succeed in making it lighter than the already relatively light ATS-V, i'll consider it as a fail.
Also.. If they cant get it lighter with a v8, how do they plan on handling the ecoboost 2.3l mustang with a 2.0liter down on horsepower?

Seriously, the title needs to be changed. It's still pure speculation.

The CTS V-Sport is also off of the Alpha platform and also has the 3.6L TT engine and weights in around 4,000 pounds.

What we don't know is how much high dollar low mass hardware was involved to get a 3,600 pound ATS-V. Might be some CF in the hood for example that you won't see in a Camaro or at least at mid level SS Camaro.

Gives an idea of what might be but what will be is anyone's guess.

If the 2.0L ATS coupe is weighing in around 3450 lbs and the V6 at 3560 lbs,

I don't see how a V8 Camaro on the same platform is going to lose much weight from where the 5th gen is now. The V8 engine, the transmission, rear end, brakes, cooling all adds weight.

Adding luxury usually adds weight. But cutting weight usually costs money. The question is, which plays a bigger role: features or cost? And keep in mind, a lot of what used to be considered luxury is now standard.

You might have to define 'much weight' here. Because to me, that implies less than about 50 lbs and I don't see that happening. The V6 ATS is about 200 lbs lighter than the current V6 Camaro. I can't see the 6th gen Camaro adding back 150 lbs
