Huge Weight Reduction!
The stock battery in the Camaro weighs in at 44lbs; I replaced mine with a Braille "No Weight" battery (this one: http://www.braillebattery.com/index....tteries/b2317r ). When I received it I thought, WTF, those cats sent me a motorcycle battery! But no, it's a car battery and weighs just under 17 lbs! So I dropped 27lbs just by swapping out the battery.
I also bought one of their aluminum mounting kits and installed the battery on Friday, the car has started and run just fine all weekend. So far so good! |

Nice weight drop but its only 475CCA. Rather low for anyone in a colder area than FL on a big V8. Heck my corolla has a 600CCA and its a 1.8L.

I put the 15lb version in my ss and ran it as a daily driver for 6 weeks in Chicago 40-50 degree "spring" weather. Too lazy to take it out after April 2nd drag racing at Byron il. Had a slow start last week and put the 44lb-er back in ;-). I think from here on out, I'll take it to the track and switch it out there, or at least haul the 44 with me for quick change in, if I get stranded.

Yeah, these aren't meant for daily drivers. They work great at the track but i'd be hesitant to trust one, day in and day out.

There's a company making lithium batteries for motorcycles now too. They cost $200-220 but have the same CCA as stock. They have similar weight savings as these too. I think 28lbs reduced to around 7lbs. I might make the jump on one of the bikes first since it can already meet power requirements. I'd prefer the price to come down a bit first which it will in time.
Even though my car is a sunny day cruiser I can't reduce the amps that much. I figure in another couple years the batteries will be closer to where they need to be from both a cost and power standpoint and then I'll make the jump. |

The manufacturer will say pretty much anything to get you to buy one but know that they had to give up something to make them weigh so much less. That usually translates into less cold cranking amps, less capacity, less residual, etc. I'm no battery expert by any means but to use one of these on a car that you ABSOLUTELY depend on to start and stay running, doesn't seem like a good idea.
