Finally !! Ethanol Free gas for my 1LE
I have been running premium gas in my 1LE. It is a requirement. But there is only one gas station around that sells Ethanol Free gas, and it is way out of my way even when out and about.
Well a nice belated Christmas present they have been building a mile down the road. A brand spanking new Mavericks opened yesterday. And they serve the good stuff!! Premium Ethanol Free. Now if I can get the snow gone and the air warmer, I am all set. |

Just out of curiosity what's your premium ethanol free running per gallon there? It's $2.73 here or $2.35 for the 10% stuff.

All the ethanold free gas stations near me are either 87 octane or 90.

I don't know about where you live, but here, Maverik is a swear word for performance vehicles. Shell, Chevron or Texaco only is my recommendation. Ethanol free sounds nice but where we are, the Ethanol free fuel doesn't get purchase nearly as frequently so the fuel tends to sit around for a long period of time. Roughly a month ago, we tuned a ZL1 that had Ethanol free fuel in it and it was GARBAGE. He had to run it out and then fill with Chevron premium. Upon doing so, we re-tuned and were able to add timing back in and make better power. Just my experience with Ethanol free, for what its worth....

To be honest, this station is only open 2 days so far, so I havent had a chance to even drive in yet. But the E free sign has been put up and that is where I saw this. I hope it isnt sub 91 octane.
I hadnt heard that Mavericks had a bad rep. I usually buy my premium at sams club. And their gas doesnt sit around much at all. But their gas is Flying J from local refineries I am gonna have to stop by this evening. Hope my bubble isnt burst. |

Most of my high performance friends are running E-85 fuel. Tremendous cooling effect, high timing, and they can raise their super-charger pressures. Problem with E-85 is that it takes about 30% more fuel flow to pack in the same BTU's/power as gasoline.
My only real point, eliminating ethanol doesn't necessarily, or absolutely equate to more power. There are lots of considerations, especially if you're able to modify your tune to the ethanol based fuel.

In my opinion, ethanol free gas won't be better by any means. Actually, if the engine keeps same open loop fuel trims, 10% ethanol fuel will make more power since the same volume of fuel with ethanol will be less potent, leading to leaner run.
The track pumps usually only sell ethanol free as if we all run carbureted muscle cars and might benefit from it, and I'm planning to bring my own Chevron fuel to the track this next season. That's what my engine 'learns' on in daily driving, so it's the best fuel for my NA engine

You guys were right.
It is 88 octane. Which now the question begs to be asked,.. What does our cars consider the trigger point between regular and premium octane before it switches maps? |

If I understand it correctly, you should finish it up dry, fill with premium, and then reset the ECU to quickly switch back from the low octane mail.

I havent run anything less than 91 in mine since new. And I did the fuse pull after my first fillup was burned through.
I was just wondering what octane the car triggers at to drop down the map. 90, 89, 88,... etc. |

You can check for it yourself, via datalogging. I discovered a bad local gas station using this procedure, it never fails ; ) |

Why ethanol free? I've had good luck on 93 octane with ethanol. Is there a reason people avoid ethanol blend?
