Ironically, I also suggested that if Chevrolet were to make a limited run of say...60,000x 1969 Camaro "reprints" with new/upgraded mechanical workings that are on par with todays handling, fuel economy and power...people would go nuts for them. So nuts in fact they could probably sell for a round $80,000 dollars. But, I digress.

The reality is most people just don't have the cash to throw down and "Buy a 1969 Camaro" that has been resto-modded or to build/rebuild a 1969 Camaro from the ground up. That's why I think the retro look would work in the first place. It meets alot of criteria that people want all in one car.

I'd certainly give you that. A reproduction of a classic with modern components would certainly sell like hot cakes. This however, does not equate to further retro models in future vehicle development. They can take tidbits of inspiration from them, sure but frankly, it needs to move on. It's no different than the new mustang. Sure, they took a step in the right direction but it still has too many retro cues. Combine that with Fords global design language and you have a hosh-posh of good intentions that just missed the mark. GM I think, took the safe route and decided that it was just easier to change a few cues than to remodel the car. I think it's a safe bet but not daring enough.

a quick search found 2 Z28 1969 here under $80,000. I know $80,000 US is about $100k here so either you have the cash or not in either event.
I for one would get original for the same money since I still remember the fun of being able to work on your car without electronic gizmos.

I liked the look of the Gen5, but it was the 14 that got my money. It is a matter of personal taste OR a matter of getting the newest. It will be a while before the Gen6 look will grow on me.

Thought about this question. I have a 2011 2SS/RS Automatic that has 32,000 miles on it after 5 years as a daily driver and track day car. I have modified the car for track on the low end with PFADT front and rear sway bars, stainless brake lines around, Camaro engine tower strut, CAI Filter, Full OMP harnesses, Hurst extension tap shifter bars, Corsa cat back mufflers. Just ordered the new Moreno camber and castor to take away the understeer.
I brought in my car for an what if I traded in my car question and they said around $22,000 the way it stood. The new price out the door of a Gen 6 is more about $55,000. From what I have seen the gen 6 car is improved, but is it worth $33,000 more? I would have to go and improve it over stock as I have already done to my car. I would probably get about 3 more seconds off my best lap time. $10,000 a second? People always come u to me and say nice things about my car. I don't think that I would get any more compliments. So I think about how I could that money on a vacation a new bathroom or so much more. i think I will wait a few years and see if the Corvette prices come down on used ones and also the used Gen 6 and be financially prudent while still getting my adrenaline kicks on the track.

Sticking to my game plan, will upgrade to a 2012 - 2013 ZL1 come October and will wait until I could score one just under $40,000 and I will be a happy dude....

I can't rememeber the artist, but I do remember that these were produced early half of the 2000's in response to the rumor of a new Camaro coming out.
I think this would have been the right track. Perhaps the rear would need to be worked a little. But, its a 95% solution in my book.

GM upgraded the Camaro for young buyers. It's a great car, but like others have said, the retro flavor is being phased out. The new interior is beautiful, but it's very modern. Reminds me of a Lexus. The 6th Gen is a wonderful car, and GM eventually had to go in a modern direction. They have to compete with the Mustang, and Ford has done the same thing.

That said, I love the retro looks of the 5th. I even love the retro styled "cheap" interior. I've decided that I'm keeping mine.

Depending on how the new Camaro looks in person I may be ADDING it to my car stable. If I don't like it the new C7 will be added. No matter what I win.
