I'm guessing the price will start with 69....
$69,795.00 + destination charges. Optional equipment at extra cost. Dealer markups not included. There, you saw it here first. LOL

...yeah ADM's, I sat in a 2014 Stingray here with a 5 hung over it, and I gawked at a Lime Rock Green Z51 in the middle of the showroom that was locked and loaded...and I mean loaded at 72 and sweet as all HE double hockey sticks with 6.5 over MSRP.

The true problem to this is that the mainstream expects the car to be the "Z28" and not the "Z/28" - there is a difference in the / added to the name.
The generations since the 1970's have grown up seeing a "Z28" - thinking that it is the top dog of the Camaro lineup, and therefore something that should be affordable by all - I wouldn't be surprised if GM has a "Z28" prepared for the next release (2016?) and that this is a last blast for the 5th gen before it changes completely. I wouldn't be surprised if GM is trying to push this car out to show the world - look everyone, we can do it too - we have awesome technology and can do anything the way we want to. "We are the new GM". They want people to take notice. Who cares if it costs 80,000.00. The Lamborghini that has a slower lap time is more than twice as much for price - and I know - "It's a Camaro, it should be affordable". Says who? You? And you are? The producer of the product determines the price based on supply and demand. There are other factors that go into that decision, I know - but in the end, GM could say "f the numbers, we want to build a supercar Camaro and it'll cost 200k and blow the doors off a ferrari." The price will be met, they will sell vehicles, and it'll probably be to the people they are trying to impress. Gotta think about the bigger picture here. GM is trying to make the world notice. I think they are doing their jobs just fine. Yes you want a Z28 - is this a Z28? Nope. Have some patience. This is a Z/28 and it was meant to be driven crazy. ----- FYI- list of times on the Nürburgring Nordschleife 7:37.4 - Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 (2014) - [ base price: ????? (est. $60,000-$70,000) ] 7:37.9 - 991 Porsche 911 Carrera S - [ base price: 88,038 euro (or $126,000) ] 7:38.0 - Lexus LFA - [ base price: $375,000 ] 7:38.0 - Porsche 911 Turbo - [ base price: $123,695 ] I believe at this point you get the idea. You are in supercar territory with this Camaro, and you are expecting bottom basement prices? Sorry, very doubtful on that.

Yes, I DO want a Z/28 and I already DO have a Z/28 (1969) and I have driven it crazy many more times than you can imagine. I want a new Z/28 and I WILL drive it crazy as well. We'll see how GM plays their hand on the 2014 Z/28, then we can ascertain how serious GM is of providing a serious car at a somewhat affordable price without gouging the consumer. Yes it is going to be expensive relative to the first Z/28's. We will see real soon I suspect. |

The first Stingray my dealership got in, had a $20k mark up. $72k MSRP with the mark up for a total of $92k and it sold.

My 1LE does all that and beats Boss 302s and some GT500s at the drag strip. And I hear it's very good at AutoX. I know Chevy is shooting for the ultimate track 5th gen. But maybe they went too far for a tenth of a second here and there. They also would have made more potential buyers happy if they would have just made the Z/28 a 1LE+LS7+Recaros+ZL1 brakes package added to any SS. I am not saying I do not like the Z/28, it shows real corporate brass cojones. I have a great respect for courage. But the Z/28 may not be the wisest use of the 427 mystique. Which is why I still think we may see something like what I am saying before the 5th gen bows out. There are quite a few here who can afford to buy a Z/28 at whatever price it comes in at, but are not willing to spend so much on a toy car. And many more who just couldn't pony up the money even if they liked the tail lights. The original Z/28 was affordable to the middle class. This one is only for the top 2.32% of us. That is the sad part of this Z/28. Edit: Oops, back on topic-> $66,795 (without air)

Even if it does, don't you worry... the dealer's "additional markup" will take care of it.

I don't think gm's worried about the sales numbers. The z/28 is just as much of a marketing tool as it is a revenue stream for them.
Making it affordable to the masses is not on their agenda for this one. I don't see how people think mid 50's or 60's is possible when you've got 20k worth on brakes/rotors on the car. Gm doesn't care what's fair or reasonable. They no damn well they can sell 2k of these for 80k plus. Shit if you could pre-order now for 85k, I believe they would already have 2k pre orders! I've said this multiple times here but I will say it again. The Corvette Z06 had the Z07 package which included new CC brakes, wheels and tires, and the MRC suspension. It was less than $10K for the package. |
