Poor gas mileage, new LFX

2015 V6 M6. Has 3600 miles on it. I have put a CAI intake, catch can, and cut off the stock mufflers. I have also put SS wheels on it.

I drive pretty sane, only a few times getting in to the car and romping on it.

I am struggling to get 19MPG out of the car. I run BP 93 Octane gas. I really feel like something is wrong, even though it runs good. Just doesnt seem like it should be getting this bad of mileage.

Thoughts?

And, excuse my concern. I traded in a Mini Cooper that got 35+ for this.

stop putting 93 in it unless you have a tune for it. higher octane is a bad idea if the car isn't set up for it.

The SS wheels are likely the cause of the poor mileage, I hate to say. :(

I have 5200 miles on mine. I average 18mph and 13mpg. The 18mph is not by choice.

Did you ever watch what you do. I realized my lousy mileage is due to me running around mostly in 3rd gear. In a real car like the V8's, this would equate to 2nd gear. Rarely do I make it into 4th before I have to stop.

To me the trick is to get into the 5th or 6th asap. Don't linger in the lower gears.

Well. I will try 87 octane first and watching my gearing first. I do spend an awful lot of time in 3rd and 4th in town.

If I don't put 91 in mine, it pings a bit upon acceleration. You'll also notice the knocking sound at idle if any of you run 87 oct. I have 22k miles on mine and been putting premium in it since around 1500 and ran a 13.97 with only a CAI.

Edit: Also, cutting off your mufflers might have been the cause of your drop in mpg's too.

Doubtful, I've always had "ss" wheels and have always got great mpg. Better than the window sticker. Every v6 with the rs package has 20s. I could always get 30+ on the highway and still do if I keep it under 70mph.

Best you'll get is 22-24mpg at best...this is why I just bit the bullet and bought a V8 Camaro......the gas mileage in the V6 isn't that much better than the V8 Camaros.....now I went overboard and bought the ZL1 but hey...I didn't want to upgrade the V8 and then say I should have bought the ZL1 so meh...

Do you do much highway driving?

EDIT: I just noticed you have a Z/28 spoiler installed:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=423854

This will effect your average mpg by 2-3 points. They look cool but are meant for the track for additional downforce. That downforce will make your mpg suffer a bit while doing regular driving.

Octane and tune are note effecting your MPG's. The 20's are not effecting your MPG's either.

I have been using 93 octane from day one. I have almost every bolt on for the LLT (except for the pulley). My tune is the can Trifecta tune, nothing to do with the octane fuel I use.

I have 275/40/20's in all four corners. Those wheels and tires did not hurt my MPG's

I can get anywhere from 30 - 33 MPG on the highway when I set the cruise at 70 mph.

I test for MPG almost every morning on my daily commute into work, resetting the DIC and cruise set for 70 mph.

I had a SS from work for a week and when I did that same teting the best I was getting was 24 - 26 MPG, so there is a drop in MPG for the SS, they are not the same.

I bought the V6 for my daily drive to help save on fuel as I would have a 70 mile round trip commute each day. Plus the same model V8 SS would have cost me another 7K up front.

I am very happy with how mine performs.

Now as for the problem you are seeing with your MPG. I recomend going out on the highway, setting the cruise at 70 MPH, reset the DIC for MPG and travel 25 - 50 miles and see what you get. Bet it will be around 30 MPG.

City driving, especially in 3rd gear will eat fuel like kids eating candy. The higher rpm's is what does you in. I have the automatic and it shifts to the higher gear very quickly saving on fuel. If I need to have more power, put the foot down and let it shift, bingo lower gear more power.
