turn a ZL1 engine into a ZR1 engine ?

Just for conversation.--- The ZL1 engine is close but not the same as the ZR1 engine . So how much to you think it would cost to turn a ZL1 engine into a ZR1 engine.Keep in mind most of us are not Mechanic so let say the average person wonted to do this at a local shop . What do you think it would take ?

A whole engine rebuild. All Ls7s and ls9s are handcrafted from the factory by a specialist. It would need everything down to the supercharger with the zr1 having a 4 lobe eaton, twin vortices series supercharger. The engine has lightweight titanium intake valves and connecting rods and contains a high-performance dry-sump oil system, which distributes pressurized oil from an external reservoir to protect vital components under high-g driving conditions. The zr1 is a work of art. Not to say the Zl1 isn't though! Two tremendous cars Chevy has produced.

I believe the main difference is the supercharger, the ZR1 runs a bigger one, but I believe displacement wise they are close. Maybe some internal upgrades to handle the additional boost.

If you want the same reliable power as a ZR1 it takes an intake, a pulley, and a tune. If you want the same engine parts you have to buy new rods, pistons, heads, blower etc.

This. Getting the same amount of power is not that big of a deal with a few upgrades, trying to convert the engine is a much bigger deal.

Why didn't you just buy a ZR1?

Lingenfelter put a ZR1 supercharger and changed the cam in a ZL1. There is a post and video on it called "Cool LEP ZL1' Check it out.

A lot of money. Basically best bet would be to buy a complete ls9 package and drop it in, then sell the LSA.

Tons of little changes that would cost a lot. Different crank, rods, pistons, oil squirters, coatings, TI valves, heads, cam, valve springs, blower, intercooler, etc.

LOL-- well it was hard enough to come up with the 58,000.00 for the ZL1 I just could not swing the 100,000.00 for the ZR1 and i like the looks of the ZL1 over the ZR1 . I just really like the engine of the ZR1. I know you can get the same power with some up grads out of the ZL1 engine but not the same durability...

So let me get this straight, you don't think you can add 60 horsepower without seriously affecting the LSA's durability?

No.. don't misunderstand me. I think both engine are legends in the car would but i just like the some part of the ZR1 engine that i dont have in my Zl1 like Connecting Rods (P/N 12624231): Forged titanium and Pistons (P/N 12598634): Forged aluminum. They may not be necessary but would be nice to have .

That makes no sense. Why would they be nice to have?
You said you were concerned about durability but just want some of the ZR1 pieces because they'd be nice to have?
Threads kinda silly OP.

I don't think the titanium rods in the ZR1 are as strong as the forged rods in the ZL1. They are much lighter but I saw one ZR1 break one of those titanium rods with excessive engine breaking..... I don't think that would happen with a ZL1 even though the car weighs 1000 pounds more. More exotic and lighter does not necessarily mean stronger. It is hard to beat good old fashioned steel for strength.
