True, you can't be liable to yourself for diminished value.

That's what sucks about insurance companies... they'll fight for a total loss if its not your fault, but will fight you in situations like this. Hopefully they don't pull the "Act of God" card. Glad you're ok OP.

No way that's $13k. I was in an accident where the driver side had damaged front and rear fenders along with the front bumper, and that was right around $14k.. You're looking at major suspensions work plus body work, so no way.

I'm willing to bet that's frame damage on the front quarter panel area.

Yes... That's the mistake on my part. It definitely needed new tires, but I was trying to hold off because I was getting rid of it in early March. I typically only drive the vehicle during good weather, but my beater was in the shop for repairs. The on-ramp to the interstate is concrete, combine that with heavy rain and low tread.. well you know the rest of the story.

Someone on here posted a video of a Camaro spinning out on the highway in the rain. Ever since then I drive really slow in the rain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Insurance Companies are all full of crap, you lose everytime.
We asked for Diminished value , and they offered only $800.00 and that's complete BS. Car was $21,000 brand new, it had, they said originally $7000.00 in damage, so they would not write it off, and by the way the accident was a full on 40mph rear ender, girl was on her cell phone.
Once they fixed it , came to $10,751, then the BS $800 diminished value. The day of the accident the car had 3000 miles on it, a 2017 with a low trade value of $16000.00, that day, we took it to Carmax to try to get the insurance to pay a higher diminished value, Carmax said they would not want to buy it with that much damage having been repaired, but if they did, max maybe $8000, but they would not give us anything in writing. So now we have a car worth so much less than the balance of the loan, we can never sell it until the loan is over in 5 years, completely ridiculous and none of it was our fault. Sitting at a Red Light ???? So we got screwed, by all people involved. Also talked to 2 Lawyers and no interest in helping, they did not think they could actually help. Insurance is the biggest crock of you know what. Flaps Last edited by flaps100; 02-15-2018 at 01:23 PM. Reason: more info |

That's one of the reasons I kept all seasons on mustang 95% of the time. Got caught in a freak rain storm once with M/T ET Streets on it yeah that was not fun. Even though drag radials are extremely different form a high po summer tire I stuck with all seasons
