That's a good question. I have to switch into 4th gear about 30 feet before the finish line. I couldn't think of a reason to use 5th unless you are just that fast

Last year all stock I hit 4th one time and it hurt my time I ran better running 3rd out to the limiter. This year I'll be in 4th with gears and some bolt ons and wheels. I'm putting 4.11 gears I it so I wonder if maybe they are running 4.11 or 4.33 maybe..?

There is a power level and a gear that is going to determine what you cross the line in. If you look at 2NASSTY for instance he is a big power ZL1 that runs 136MPH, that is why he is shifting 5th simply running out of gear.
In a stock LS3 you can finish the 1/4 in 3rd or shift 4th and lose mph... Atleast that's what I did back in 2012. It's all in the set-up your running, ideally you want to maximize your rpm range to finish at a high RPM in 4th (M6) if you are NA. There is a science to make speed by having the correct set-up.

Yea I hear ya on the science! That is why I couldn't decide between 4.11 and 3.91. I would like to stay n/a for a while anyway and maybe some day s/c it or I may just go for a lsx build not sure yet. I'm sure eventually the 4.11 will not be enough gear. I'm thinking a cam and bolt on car maybe heads etc 4.11 will be ok.

Very happy with the clutch. I featherd it out just like the stock clutch. You can hear it slipping in the video.

Tire height has a lot to do with it also to keep out of 5th. Last edited by swiftkart; 04-09-2016 at 09:24 AM. |

This is why I cross at 6700 now. Shorter tire with 3.91 = 4.30ish...

I've only been to the 1/4 once.
12.0s with 2.2 60ft. I leave off idle since I'm on 22s lol.

This is why a 3.91 works so well in an auto. Their 4th gear is not 1:1 it's a 1.15 resulting in acting like more gear than us M6 guys. Also look how short 1st gear is.... You wonder why they leave so good.

If you are crossing at 6700 in 4th that's perfect... I don't think you need any more gear unless you are saying that with heads you will need more gear..? What tires are you running and what is your car bolt ons and cam right now?

SS3 stick, Kooks stepped header + full 2.5 exhaust, RCR intake, R2C CAI, UDP, PTB and a great tune! Drivetrain mods are a 3.91, solid rear cradle bushings, trailing arms and bushings and toe rods. Everything else is factory for now.
