Always had stick shift when growing up. Always had a muscle car too. 40ish now. And I work in and around Atlanta. No thanks. I love this A8. No problems and great in traffic. The manual mode gives me plenty to play with when I want too and D takes the load off when I need it too. Too each his own. Give me the automatic.

I personally find automatics boring to drive and there is nothing like just throwing gears around. Also the Rev match is fabulous to use. Don't thing i'll ever own a sports car with an automatic.

Automatic != sports car

Main reasons for owning a Camaro
V8, manual tranny, rear drive, Kick Ass body

If you want automatic, get the Caddy.

As others have said, it's a personal decision so only you can decide. Of all the options available on the car, this is the one you shouldn't compromise on so get what's right for you. I test drove an A8 before buying and just knew I wouldn't be happy with anything other than a manual so if you really want a manual then I'd hold out. Turnover is pretty high so no doubt an M6 meeting your other requirements will be available soon. Given the power of the car the clutch is pretty light so it's never frustrated me in traffic and I love the extra involvement/engagement with the car.

That is subjective. I had a A8 1SS for 3 months, got bored and traded it for my current M6 2SS which ive had for a year now. Happy with my choice but now itching for more power...time for a hellcat or ZL1 as I'm not willing to blow my warranty on the expensive to fix LT1

BTW I buy all my cars low mile/slightly used and don't lose my ass in depreciation/trade value.

Those saying the A8 is quicker, it is from a dig mainly. Highway roll (real world on the street) about even with slight edge to the manual as speeds increase from my experience.

OP:
If not sure, definitely rent a A8 SS for a day or two to see if it's for you.
The A8 is not a bad transmission but there have been shudder issues and the paddles are clicky/noisy, very slow to respond(my biggest gripe) when shifting the auto "manually".

The manual getting old to shift is most definitely subjective. But no one is shifting the M6 as fast as HAL 9000 can shift my A8. Resistance is futile.

I don't care about quarter mile. We drive 99% on the street. I like a manual and my last 2 cars were 6 speeds. A 98 Trans Am Ws6 LS1 and a 2004 Vette coupe and I loved them. I now have a 8 speed auto and it is nice but it is not a manual no matter the paddle shifters or other gizmos. If you can still shift and live in an area where it is practical, stay with the manual. It is more engaged with the car.
