If you can wait till this coming summer I would go with the new A10 refresh over the skip shift M6, but I would avoid the A8 with the V8!

Might've been simpler to name this thread "Protestant or Catholic.....discuss"

Back on topic....I got the A8 because
  • I live in a large metro area with lots of traffic in spots
  • A8 does have better acceleration
  • A8 gets better fuel economy. I know....why by a Camaro V8 if you car about fe? Well, it's for those times when I'm NOT wringing it out, which is honestly, most of the time.
  • Drove a 2SS Coupe for a couple weeks. Found the shift paddles to be awesome when I feel like shifting for myself.

I have the M6 & think the Tremec is great. But know in advance about the skip shift CAGS feature. I bought and installed a CAGS eliminator right away. It's a tight fit to get to the upper connector when on your back on the garage floor but easily doable. I also think the A8 is fantastic, but for me, I have mainly owned manuals starting in the early 70's and just am hard wired to think a performance car needs a manual. I don't drag race, so the .2 difference in a time slip wasn't a concern. it was smiles and being engaging when driving a fantastic corner carver with massive torque I was after. I don't think you could go wrong either way

I knew I was going to drag race this car before I bought it so the manual was never considered at all, in any way shape or form.

Depends on you OP. I went with a stick, because manually shifting a car is more enjoyable to me. If rowing your own gears is something that puts a smile on your face, then get the stick. I had a girl in my car a few nights ago who didn't even know what a manual trans car was, I suppose thats why the manual trans is going extinct.
People are just not interested in really driving anymore. Cars with autopilot will soon be the norm. Im just glad that even as a 90's kid, I was raised by car enthusiasts. Oh, and rev match is awesome, turn it on with a flick of the paddle, and the car is buttery smooth when shifting, I always throw it on when im in town or in LA traffic.

Now, daily driving aside, if you plan to drag the car regularly, get the auto. And if you plan to race on a road course often, get the stick.

Go drive both.

Get the manual. I love Rev Match and keep it on at all times.

Get the manual. Awesome to drive and reliable. The A8 from what I have seen and heard are having problems. No AFM with the manual also. better rear diff ratio also

Drive both and get what you want but do not be concerned about commuting / stop-and-go driving with the m6. The clutch is feather light, pedal effort is on par with my 4 banger mazda commuter car.

I love my A8. Its convenient when daily driving and with its AFM its not bad on gas either. But lets be honest we bought these cars because of their performance and all it takes is sliding the gear selector into manual mode and it becomes a gear slapping beast. Set into sport or track and it really comes alive. You have to drive one and go through the settings and really play with it to appreciate just how clever the A8 is. "Real men" will swear up and down manual is the only way, somthing about man cards and masculinity or something. I was that guy, I have always driven manual cars and never thought i'd see the day where i owned an automatic sports car but honestly i have never once regretted the change. Its incredibly fast on the track, fun through the back roads, and comfortable cruising around town. What more could you ask for?

Edit:
Side-note, Remote start is a beautiful thing especially if you live in an area like me that gets below 0 in the winter and over 100 in the summer.

Auto love it I do not use the paddle shifters if I want to go manual I use the up/down feature.

I enjoy remote start just do not like manuals in our crazy traffic here in Orlando.

Get what you prefer we ALL have our reasons that work for US and not others.

I had a 16 auto a8 1ss quickly got bored of the slow reacting noisy paddles, lack of control and traded for a 17 2ss 6m. The auto is NOT faster from a roll than the manual properly shifted.

I want to emphasize on this. But also, let me remind everyone that the A8 beat Mr. Jeff Lutz driving a m6 by half a second. The best part was the A8 the hands of an ordinary man. In the quarter mile that's a pretty big gap. You would need to be either professional or have a ton of practice in the m6 to be able to keep up with the A8. Food for thought.

Totally agree.

The rev match feature makes downshifting a breeze, and it sounds bad as*!
