A couple Camaro SS issues?

I am an owner of a 2010 Camaro 2SS with the L99 engine. Sometimes when I park after driving it, i hear a dripping sizzling sound coming from the engine area. And I rarely use my A/C so it can't be condensation dripping. I am worried. The other issue I am having is a wining noise coming from under the dash. It seems to match the pitch of the engine. I don't think I should be having any issues with this car considering I have only owned it for a few months and it only has 24,000 miles on it. Let me know what you think.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. The whine, I would try taking it to a parking lot, and turning the wheel rapidly side to side. See if you hear a sound like a zipping jacket. If so, the steering column needs to be replaced. GM takes care of it for free. Had two go in one year on mine I had (2011). If not, I would say the noise is probably active fuel management engaging/disengaging. The fluid? Can't tell you much on that one. Is there anything on the ground? If so, what color and is your running temp normal?

If no fluid is hitting the ground, the sizzling sound may just be your cats.
The whining noise, may be a long shot, but is the radio stock? If not, it could be engine noise transmitting through the speakers.

Hello Mattsmaro,

Apologies for the noises and sounds you're experiencing in your 2SS! That definitely appears to be worthy for inspection. I could research any recalls for this issue if you send me your VIN and offer additional assistance if necessary. Feel free to contact me and reference this thread if you choose to do so.

Kind regards,

William R.

Its not the AFM. Which indeed is terrible within itself. I know what that sounds like. But the whine noise is coming from behind the dash. It isnt feedback from the speakers. It's not the "stock" stereo because I tested it with the stereo on and off.
The sizzling dripping noise freaks me out though. And there are no fluids on my garage floor. I just know Chevy Team will come up with some excuse for my car's bad behavior. But it can't hurt to take it in. It's still under warranty. On top of all of these problems, my camaro also has a loud knocking in the engine when it's first fired up... Like a lifter is knocking or something. It also seems like my camaro has been sluggish when passing people in a lower gear. I should have never purchased a camaro with an automatic...

Don't bash the L99. Have 84, 000 with no major issues. Lifter knock can be fixed by upgrading springs. As for GM team it depends on dealership. Mine has been great everytime I have gone by. Atleast give them a chance. It may be something very simple. If your the 2nd owner, issues could have come from previous owners driving habits. Sorry to hear your having issues. More than welcome to pm me if ya like.

I've got a similar whining noise. Do me a favor, just turn on the power but not the engine with your key. Then pop the hood and tell me if you hear a consistent whine coming from that area. Right now mind does that, and whines when I start coasting. You may could try the fuse pull for your sluggishness.

Also there was a recall out there to move the positive terminal cable from under the engine on the 2010s. They melted when touching the engine and some caught fire. I'm curious if this may be your case.

Definitely try the fuse pull (5 & 20). Make sure you have fresh 93 octane in tank up to engine. Check all hose connections for possible leak that's burning off on block / headers. Know the a/c units do this but you said it wasn't. Check brake lines also. Just trying to help. We all had miner & big issues but most willing to help.

Could the whining under the dash be your AC/Heater fan? Mine had to be replaced around the 24K mile mark. It made a whining noise around mid-speed and a chirping (like a cricket) at low speeds. Fan at full speed the noise goes away.

I know you said that it seemed to match the pitch of the engine so this is probably not the problem.

The fuse pull is to reset the octane tables to the higher rating especially if the car ever had low octane 87 in it at some time. It is suppose to help wake the engine back up. I haven't tried so cant say myself.

But really either take your car in to get looked at or take the chevy guys offer above of some help & get it sorted. Who knows what it could be.... I think its great the Chevy guys are on here offering help & I would accept their help in a second if my car were having issues anywhere close to what you describe. You said your car is still under warranty so take it in while it still is.

Hey Matt, I think I may know what your sizzling is, I have it too. I heard it for the first time about 3 weeks ago. Its sounds like a drip of water hitting the header. I got under car yesteday to change oil, and saw water trails on the oil pan. I followed them up to the side of the block, and there is a fitting there, that feeds water to the oil cooler. That fitting is known to leak because it was crossthreaded from the factory. It looks like there is a TSB for this issue, and their fix is to retap the hole. Not sure Im ok with that on a water fitting. Might be time to drop a 416ci in. Take a look and see if you have the same issue.

Nothing wrong with an Auto. Do a fuse pull and have your car looked at. No need to bash when it could be something very simple to fix.
