I'd raise this to an even worse feeling is hearing the splitter hit when you misjudge the curb. Actually gave my car to a valet once at a hotel. Came out, saw it in the lot, splitter was up over the curb. GM splitter which had already cracked after the aforementioned misjudge of a different curb. this kinda did it in. Manager came out and said "don't let our guys park your car." and pulled it off the curb, horrific noise. I could have blamed them for the damage but I'd have felt guilty doing so.

Good advice about the valet not parking it. I never thought of that. I'm paranoid about my splitter.

I was up until I cracked it initially. I ended up ripping all the broken pieces out, filled the cavity with expanding foam, let it cure. Then trimmed with a razor and sanded to match the contour. Then slapped some 3M gloss black vinyl I had laying around on it. Probably wouldn't notice without pointing it out. Was pleased with it.

But... I didn't let the foam cure long enough apparently. Came out the next day to a bulge. Looked ridiculous, but I laughed it off and just went on with life until I swapped it out with an aftermarket one before trading it in.

Oh boy, we talking about the splitter?

I screwed up mine last Friday. I have also lightly scraped it before, but this one managed to destroy it. I was going to going up a level in a terribly designed parking lot and bam, the curb chewed up my front splitter.

Interestingly, I never scraped it because I parked too close to a curb. I did it before as I got my jab and was a little out of it, so I put my car in 1st instead of reverse as I was backing out of a spot and ksssssss... That damage was minor enough for me to not bother with it.

On the SS 1LE, it is DIY-able, but having a friend helps quite a bit. There are 12 bolts and 6 rivets(I think 20+ has two more that require you to take off the front wheels and pull back the fender from the one video I saw on YT, which my 19 doesn't have), and then 3 strips of glue. A heat gun, a small utility knife and patience will get the adhesive off. I needed to go to the gym yesterday so I stopped after removing the adhesive residue. Will finish installing it today.

I did and they were doing exactly as promised... My car was returned to me with the very same miles I gave it to them with (89 miles on the ODO)... 2 years later I'm still very happy with the work, the car still looks like it did at 89 miles even though it is approaching 6,000 miles...

Money very well spent in my opinion...
I did it as a way of throwing the salesman a bone in an attempt to make sure that my order would get picked up. I probably should've cancelled as I believe it was a little pricey (close to $600 if I remember). But it's done. I won't have to worry about morons cutting in front of me at the last minute kicking up gravel or something worse. Hell, I may go ahead and get it wrapped if I get sick of seeing all the micro-scratches.

Glad you didn't try to pin it against the valet for the damage done elsewhere. I can imagine the valet getting fired if you had.

Yeah, give them the money with a little tip, and ask them if you can park it yourself. I once pulled up to a valet driver to ask for directions in my SS Sedan, I could hear him excitedly tell the other guy, "it's an SS Sedan!". I think he was let down when I was just asking him for help in finding a bar close by.

If this was a Honda Civic SI forum and we were driving Hondas, I'd just say break the other side to match and tell people that it's a homemade air intake that gives you 200 HP at the wheels.

I have to be honest, I used to hug the loading zone like that when I parked, because I figured it would give me more space between me and the person that might want to park next to me. Sadly, found out that all it does is invites the moron parking next to me to hug our shared parking line so that THEY can try and benefit from the extra space. It's almost like parking way the hell out in the middle of nowhere only to come back and see some piece of garbage parked right next to you.

Business opportunity?

Or I could sell it to a Mustang owner. ATK+99 when they crash into crowds as it has sharp bits exposed.

That, and lower risk of accidentally cracking the splitter when backing into a space

I gotta admit mine also has a few small scrapes at the bottom (mostly from tricky driveways, though), but I touched them up all right. One of these days I'll have to get that nice integrated front camera from Gen5DIY and install it properly, the only problem is I get cold sweat just thinking about dropping that &#@** glove box cover to access the HMI, it was a gargantuan PITA back when I installed the footwell lighting...

LOL! I've never heard that backing into a parking spot is a muscle car thing. I've backed into parking spots for years in order to protect the NISMO spoiler on my Z. I actually did that that the other day with my 1LE when I went to the dealership to pick up some parts I ordered. Great way to protect that front splitter on it. I thought the folks there were looking at the 1LE, not my parking job.
