Rear End Options For 1000hp
Currently my ss has a procharger f1a making 670whp with 9psi stock motor. The goal is to have engine work done and hit just about 1k hp. I plan on drag racing the car but it will be more of a street car.
My question is what rear end set up to go with and why? The options that I know of are a zl1 conversion, 9in, and Dana strange. |

If you're on a budget the zl1 can't be beat. You can find complete zl1 rear cradles for around 2000-2500. The only downside is being stuck with either 3.23 or 3.73 gears

I've heard the ZL1 is good up to 1kwhp. Not heard of anyone grenading one yet but one person killing a ZL1 axle CV.
If you're really serious, just go 9" and be done with it. I've ran the 3.73 and 3.23 ZL1 diffs and really liked them other than the extra weight. But, hard to beat cast iron for strength. I just had the DSS Proform 9" installed and been driving it around - I can't tell the difference yet, but as soon as Spring gets here, will get to see how it does at the track. The Strange is also a good choice for a few bucks less. So, I'd push for 9" or Strange.

Great bang-for-the-buck, IMO. Haven't heard of one breaking on our platform.
