If you have to ask what’s the purpose of an affordable V8 Camaro you couldn’t really relate to my answer.

Try me . Is it just for having the v8 ? You can buy an 18 1ss for 35k or less now . I am not sure how much chevy would have to take out of the 1ss to lower the price by 3 to $5,000 without hurting the camaro. The gen 5 Z28 was a stripper built for the track , that hurt sales, you can pick one up now in the mid 30s .

Easy! Save weight and cost by making a 1LS/1LT V8
Keep the 18" wheels and all-season tires from the LS/LT cars No LED headlights/DRLs No SS stanchion spoiler No SS 8" screen and upgraded audio Basically just removing the $1995 RS and $900 Tech packages from the LT cars that come standard on SS. It's base, not stripped. Redneck special |

So I'm curious as to what would fit your idea of a "stripper" V8 Camaro? What accoutrements do you not want? Would a 4.8L, LT based engine, in a zero frills interior for like $25k be what your looking for? You know, like the old first gen 307 Camaros... I sorta get what your after, I just see it getting roasted in reviews etc because "GM is back to their crappy old interior materials" and a low, 350ish hp, V8. They'd be sittig on dealer lots, if any dealer actually ordered any, because the majority of people these days want the techy stuff. Not a pleather interior, with rubber mat flooring base model.

It only cost about $1,500 to go from an I-4 turbo to a V-6 Camaro....It shouldn't cost another $9-10K to get a V-8 Camaro....Yeah, 1LS trim would work out fine...It's ok for the 4 and 6 cyl, and would be just fine for a V-8 Camaro.

You do know, that the V6 to V8 cars are not the same, diff's not the same, electric brakes not the same, sub frames not the same, that's why the 2.0T comes in at 3200lb not 3700lb.

If you want a two-birds-one-stone solution, give the 1LS V8 a track package and call it Z/28 for a sub-40K price. Bring on the mullets! |

Would that 1LS trim have the LT1 ? Or another V8 that had the same HP as the V6 ? That $9k over the I-4 gets you a hell of a car and is worth every penny. I am not saying they don't need 1LS V8, that car would help sales ,but at what cost in the long run . It would be a step backward for the Camaro .

IMO GM will not use the Z/28 name for cars that dont stand up to the heritage of past Z/28 car. |
