Being in a different area of law enforcement, I have a little insight how things work.

Usually, they are going for enforcement in busy places, places that get a lot of accidents, residential areas, high density of traffic, etc. It's basically the places where it's pretty stupid to be speeding and drawing attention to yourself. Sure, you see people doing it all the time, moving 20mph faster than the other traffic, weaving in and out, rolling the stops, etc., but those are specific people the police are looking to pull over in these areas, because generally they are endangering everyone else. Everyone "thinks" they can handle their speed, until a momentary distraction or unplanned event happens (someone cuts in front of you, etc.) and then you are out of control and may take out other people. For the most part, they don't care much what you do when you are further away from these areas and if you get caught red handed, they'll often write it way down, if they don't let you off, because you were just endangering yourself, rather than everyone else due to all the factors above.

Some people don't get this though. They continue to draw attention to themselves. Maybe it's some sort of unconscious fight against their choice of where they live, I don't know, but it's not so hard to own one of these cars and not get tickets and you can even have a bit of fun in it. It still brakes awesome, goes around turns awesome, and so on. Lots of people would say about my BMW that "wow, if I had that I'd get so many tickets!". WTF? Well that got me thinking about another similar issue relating to availability of certain items and the incidences they are used, but I digress. You don't need a radar detector, you need to drive appropriate for where you are and your surroundings. If traffic-rules enforcement works anything like my job, it's not your safety that the laws and rules are there for, it's to protect everyone else from you.

Got my first speeding ticket in more than 10 years. I was over the speed limit but following the flow of traffic and didn’t see the CHP who usually aren’t hanging out in the toll or fast pass lanes where i got ticketed. Now hoping I don’t get other one for the next 18 months so I will be eligible for traffic school again in California. Too easy to drive fast in our cars.

But how dare they enforce speed laws when there are much more dangerous violations like not using turn signals. Hahaha. Gotta love the logic.

You’re right on. Who cares if you make the choice to seriously injure or kill yourself. That’s on you. But when innocent people get seriously injured or killed because of reckless driving and street racing, that’s what really pisses me off. Unfortunately most people give themselves too much credit when driving these fast cars. 90 percent of people can’t handle what the SS is capable of. Drive safe on the roads. Go balls to the wall on the track once you learn how to drive. I’m not sure what’s so difficult about that.

Go figure.
Sorry to hear, but thanks for reminding me, I need to order a new Uniden R3 to replace my old last gen Escort (way too many false alarms now with BSM).
