1ss regrets?

Hey guys I have been saving money for a 2017 Camaro for a while now. All along I was planning on getting a 2ss. But I got to thinking that I can really save a big chunk of change if a get a 1ss. I don't need all the fancy gadgets the 2ss comes with. I think the only things I would miss is the ambient lighting and maybe the look of the leather seats. The 1ss cloth seats are really nice though. So my question for all the 1ss guys is, do you at all regret not spending the extra money and getting the 2ss? I'm also trying to consider resale value down the road and I'm wondering if a 1ss will depreciate faster or be less desirable than a 2ss?

sounds like you are going to regret it if you are already thinking about and named 2 things you would like to have. if you can afford, go with 2ss, I would have regretted a lot by getting the 1ss.

The 2SS is a much nicer place to be. I'll be keeping this car for at least 10 years [current car is 13 years old now], and I want to be comfortable in it.

You're going to hear a lot of opinions on this. I'm in the same boat but will probably wait for '18.

In my opinion most of the cars will sell used to a person that can't afford a new one at all. That should make a 1SS move faster and traditionally all the options don't relate that well into retained value for a horsepower per dollar guy. Some people will want leather and the goodies, but the car better be well taken care of for that type of buyer or it may not get a lot of looks.

Do you use all the extra goodies in the car you have now? I personally don't. I'm biased too though b/c I HATE leather seats.

Two other things, what does you're significant other like and how much does their vote count on the 1SS vs. 2SS debate. Not many people will see the inside other than them. There are aftermarket lighting kits that have pics on here somewhere, they look better than the factory setup in side by side pics.

Depends on if you want/need all the extra goodies.

My 1SS is perfect and I couldn't justify the 5k for goodies. I had fully loaded cars in the past and did not use 70% off the features.

With that said, the leather seats are prolly the only thing I want from a 2SS.. but these cloth seats are pretty damn nice.

1ss, npp, rims, upgraded floormats, M6 and I'm totally happy lol

It's good that you are weighing your options and thinking about price and resale. I was at the dealer this weekend, they had 6 or 7 2SS, ZERO 1SS, and two 1LT, maybe a sign that 1SS won't do well resale down the road, or maybe not.

Also, you could either accept the higher payment (i'm assuming you are financing) or wait and save more to make up the difference.

scenario 1SS:
Price $39,000, down Payment of 15,000, 8% sales tax, 3.24 APR for 60 months = $490.20 a month.

scenario 2SS:
Price $45,000, down payment of 15,000, 8% sales tax, 3.24 APR for 60 months = $607.33 a month

A difference of $117.13 a month. could be out of reach depending on your sitch.

Now, lets work the numbers a little... Let's say you wait and save another $2500 for down payment on the 2SS - you are at $562.14 a month or about $72 more than 1SS.

Personally, I'd go 2SS, but good luck with your decision.

I thought the same also....I had a 2010 with all the goodies and personally I didn't use them. So, now I'm going with a 1SS without all the goodies. The only thing I will miss is the leather seats. But I can do those aftermarket. So, I will be happy once I get the seats done.

It's really what you like and what you can afford.
I was close to buying the 1SS, but I got the 2SS since I really liked the leather seats, the stereo, and the HUD. The blind side alert on the 2SS is also a really nice feature.
Now that I have the 2SS, I am glad I went with it.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. To answer some questions: my wife doesn't care either way. Honestly I think she would say which ever is cheaper lol. And I ran some numbers and given my down payment and the term I'm looking at for financing it's about a $75 difference per month between the two. That's not huge but it's big enough to make me consider the cheaper option. Especially since I won't use the cordless charging or heated and cooled seats. I rarely use the radio especially in a sports car.

I went with the 1SS as it gives me everything I wanted for 5K less. All the really important things to me - like the performance, handling and exterior styling features are the same on the 1SS as the 2SS. I had someone say: "How do you feel about downgrading since your old 2010 Camaro was a 2SS/RS and now you only have the 1SS?" My answer was easy and simple: "This 2016 1SS is superior to my old 2SS in every way that mattered to me." It was a great buying decision with no regrets.

I have an awesome car for 37K and other than the enthusiast on this forum - no one knows a 2SS from a 1SS anyway. None of my friends, family or even strangers at car events ever knew my old Camaro was a 2SS - nor cared. The same for my 1SS.

Now none of what I just said will make any difference to you if you make the decision solely to save some money but then always will have regrets there after. I sleep just fine and the extra 5K paid almost all of a 15 day trip with the wife through Italy that created great times that have generated a lifetime of amazing memories. And when I got home from that trip I had my Hyper Blue beauty awaiting me. Each to their own.

Homelink
Dual Zone Climate Control
Blind side advisories
Auto-dimming side view mirrors
Rear backup sensors
Leather
Heated/cooled seats
Heated Steering Wheel
Ambient light
Illuminated Camaro lower door jamb trim
Bose 9 speaker stereo system
2 position memory driver's seat with exit feature

That is a LOT of features you get extra for the 2SS. If you can afford the extra 5k you are getting a lot more than 5k worth of goodies.

My wife and I chose the 1SS. It has all the features we need. The only thing we wanted from the 2SS is the lighting features (as odd as that sounds). Dual climate control in an interior so small was weird to us and we don't like leather seats. HUD is cool, but definitely was not worth the up charge to us. The other features made no difference to us. Each person is different, but all the features the 1SS carries is "loaded" enough for us and we are extremely happy with no regrets at all. Our decision was purely based on what we were happy with and had nothing to do with cost - we could have afforded the 2SS. I would say drive both and make the decision based on what you like. Our wants may not be the same as yours. Good luck with your purchase when the time comes. Either way, you'll love the car.
